The online racing simulator
Since this was my idea I figured i'd better contribute something. I haven't had time to really dedicate yet, but I had a few ideas in my head that i wanted to get "concept images" for. Here is the first. Note that this is low res, the picture hasn't been edited, the skins were thrown on really quick, there aren't enough cars, etc. This would have to be re-done with more cars, better skins, higher res, all graphic options turned up, and edited to make it look all pretty. But you get the idea.

no AA, jaggies poking my eyes out!!1 :eyepop:
I don't think that poster should have printscreen from the game, because of the res.. It's better if you already want to include cars from the game in the poster, to use that Rendered cars, that those guys are making..
BTW, what others think about my poster from few posts above.. i can't stop looking at it..

Honestly? I don't particularly like it. It would be good as a "teaser" but not as a poster, IMO. It doesn't show any of the cars from the game, it doesn't show any of the tracks from the game, etc. I think it looks nice, but I don't think it would spark interest from those who don't already know what LFS is.

I think that you're right that rendered cars would be best for a poster (or maybe a painting instead of CG). However; I don't have several hundred dollars to spend on 3DS Max to make some pretty pictures with. If someone else wants to use my picture as inspiration and render it in higher quality, I'd love to see the results. I personally don't have the time nor the funds for that.
Yes, it's a teaser allright..
I said, it could be confusing for those who don't know what LFS is.. but for us who knows, i think it will be good on my wall... gotta print it..
As for renders.. i see that there are some renders from those skining guys.. They could "lend" some of their renders for those who want to make a poster with them..
I've browsed the skinning forums pretty extensively and haven't really seen any on-track renders. I don't know if anyone would be willing to take the time to model a track (or portion of one) for a LFS poster or not. Maybe someone on the skinning forums will see this thread and get some of the talented guys over there interested?
i did a render of a fern bay segment a while ago

pics?
twas a crappy render lol i didnt spend much time on it, actually.. spent as little time as i could on it, i wanted to get it done since i knew little about UVW mapping so it was basically a test to learn how that worked
so.. it has simple omni lighting .. some crappy textures lol and.. i was also learning how alpha layers worked and basically was.. more of a test so.. ya

...RSC seems to be down so hold on ill just reupload it here

Too bad there's no easy way to just import the whole track into 3DS Max. Then you wouldn't have to configure everything by hand. You'd just have to worry about texturing and backgrounds. Oh, and foliage.

Scawen was supposed to be releasing a blackwood .cmx file ages ago...
never did... he did for the old one though, because i still have it for netkar

..plus i have all the CMX files for all the S1 tracks anyways so.. dunno whatever happened to the BL.cmx exactly, i do remember scawen saying that though
Would the SMX files be a useful start of 3DS rendering? They're completely devoid of texturing, low poly and don't really have much in terms of world objects, but at least it's the basic landscape?
