Sure, practically any image editing program will let you do that. I would like to recommend you IrfanView (www.irfanview.com). It's a great freeware app, it's lightweight and has great features.

You can use it to batch rename or convert to another filetype/compression level. So if you've got a lot of screenshots you can select those and compress them all in a couple of mouseclicks.
hehe quick reply, thanks alot

Another thumbs up for irfanview - free and powerfull
Something like a compression quality of 94% is enough to shrink images down dramatically!

Also handy to know: If your screenshots are in BMP format, a simple conversion or "save as" to JPG format will reduce file size quite a lot.
thanks alot

I use ThumbsPlus for editing/converting. I know I can batch rename with ThumbsPlus, but can you really batch convert with irfanview? That would be great. I haven't used irfanview since probably 1996. How about other batch processes? I have a lot of screenshots from flight simming that I run in windows mode. So, I end up forgetting to go full screen for a shot or when online, someone will say something in the chatbox and it scrolls across the screen. I'm playing around with cropping the windows borders and chat out of the screenies, then converting to jpeg. My screenshot program saves as bmp. That would reduce alot of time for me if I could batch crop then batch convert them all at once.

Yes you can, works perfectly You can batch convert to numerous file formats, and when doing so you can adjust the quality levels, change the dimension, color depth, brightness, cropping, sharpening, rotating, flipping, adding overlay text, etc , etc And you can do this all in one batch.
You can also use it to batch rename with it which is what I use it for mainly.
Try it out, I couldn't live without this app
