International XF GTi Championship - Tommy Østgaard Remains Champion
After six rounds and twelve races the International XF GTi Championship's second season has concluded. As is always the case, the XFG proved to offer exciting racing. For the 2010 season the defending champion and ineX Racing driver, Tommy Østgaard, would try to conquer his second International XF GTi Championship.
Tommy "Tomcat" Østgaard would show just how seriously he wanted to retain the title by claiming almost every race win in which he participated. The exception came during race two of round four in which he took a still satisfying second place. So with five poles, nine wins, and ten podiums, it's easy to see that ineX Racing's Norwegian successfully defended his title and thus remains champion.
"I am very happy with my overall performance this season and managing to defend the title! The season has just went perfect for me, obtaining a podium in every race I attended! I have had some nice fights throughout the season, as this league provides some extremely close racing. Thanks to the admins, and to all attending drivers! Congratulations to the podium," says Østgaard fully satisfied with his performance during the 2010 International XF GTi Championship.
ineX Racing Runs First and Second At Daytona
Round five of the Oval Pro Series would take place at Daytona International Speedway. Phil Diaz and Nolan Scott have proved to be competitive throughout the season, despite some upsetting finishes. Although they have both finished in the top five, with a best season finish of third, there is still room for improvement lurking around every corner.
Daytona has never been a consistent place to score points, and it has never been the most forgiving track for ineX Racing drivers. "We had a great set thanks to the data supplied to us from Tanner Stoops of Wheelmen Inc. Thanks to them we were more confident than we've ever been entering the infield of Daytona," Nolan said.
This race particularly would take place on Saturday. Phil and Nolan would find themselves in the same split. Nolan would take the pole by the narrowest of margins, whereas Phil would have to take to the rear of the grid after not having posted a qualifying time.
The race started cleanly, and Nolan would lead the field into turn one. However, Mason Baker would make an inside move going down the back straight and take the lead. "I couldn't believe he made that move. We had pulled the outside line enough that we could have run a Q line and pulled away. Instead we now had to run side by side for the rest of the run."
Afterwords Jim Christopherson let Nolan back to the bottom of the track and they both ran behind Mason. Mason showed some lagging issues, and therefore both Jim and Nolan moved to the top of the track. In the meantime Ryan Carwile pushed Mason on the bottom despite the connection issues. After ten laps disaster finally struck, as Mason would be shot up the track into Nolan and Jim. Lucky the lag would still be in effect, and it did not ruin anyone's race.
The green flag dropped and the race was back underway. This time they would be in for a long run. By this time Phil had worked his way up into the top eight. The race went green all the way up until pit stops which took place on lap 45 to 49. A few drivers pitted early, something which proved to be a mistake. Phil and Nolan would stretch their fuel to the limit and pitted together. After their pit stops they lined up nose to tail and sailed into the lead. Third and fourth place drivers Brad Bubel and Justin Lowery would come out close enough to catch the draft, and it became a four way battle for the lead.
Brad and Justin were very content running a Q line behind Nolan and Phil being that the group of cars behind was much larger. Despite this, the four lined up were easily outrunning the larger group of cars by half a tenth a lap. All looked good, and each of the top four looked content on running this line until the end of the race. Unfortunately for them, a caution would come out with fifteenth laps to go.
This restart would go according to plan, as Nolan would get a great jump on the field which allowed Phil to pull to the bottom of the track. The group of four would line up yet again and with their pace the outside line had no chance of getting around. However, another caution would come out nearing the end of the race.
The final restart took place with only five laps to go. Nolan got another good start, but this time Phil would fall back into the 6th position. Several cars bunched up on the outside and were almost able to get past Nolan for the lead, but were unable to get the overlap they need. Phil would work his way down to the bottom of the track and once bunched up, the bottom line proved to be too fast for those on the outside.
On the final lap, Phil found himself running third on the bottom line, with first on the outside line right beside him. Coming out of the finial corner Phil forced a spectacular move down the front stretch by pushing his way between the inside and outside lanes. Over the start finish line, Phil took the second place position by just six thousands of a second over third place finisher Ian D Smythe. This claimed ineX Racing's first one-two Pro Series race ever, as well as it's first Pro Series win for the 2010 season.
It was a great week for the two, as they received their first pole, win, and runner-up of the year. This earned the two a substantial amount of points, and both are slowly creeping their way into the top 25 in points despite missing several rounds.
Round six of the iRacing Oval Pro Series will take the drivers to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With a little luck and a good setup, we hope to see Phil and Nolan in the same position come two weeks time.

Apex Cup - The End to an Old Beginning
The Apex Cup, which was one of the most anticipated new Live for Speed leagues of the year, has officially come and past. The championship brought together 50 drivers from all around the world, each of which fought to bring home the 2010 title. Some of these drivers included Kevin Leu, Luis Barbosa, Adam Wisniewski, Jan Wiechowski, Michal Saidl, Elton Chong, as well as Nolan Scott, Dennis Lind, and Rudy van Buren from ineX Racing.
Throughout the season these drivers made it clear that this was truly one of the top leagues in Live for Speed. Two world records were beaten, and one was tied in round four, during official qualifying sessions. This is one of the many ways the Apex Cup proved to have one of the fastest new league driver lineups for all of 2010.
From ineX Racing's standpoint the championship started with concerns. Round one took place at Aston North in the FO8. Nolan Scott would put his ineX Racing #16 single seater on the grid in second position, but unfortunately he did not have a points scoring partner for the round. When it was all said and done Nolan found himself fourth in the championship after several incidents left him in the back of the pack during the feature race. Worst of all was the fact than ineX Racing had to play leap frog on the teams in front due to only having half the required drivers.
Round two was the turning point of the championship for the team, as Nolan Scott and Dennis Lind both took the green flag for ineX Racing. Nolan would win the sprint race after qualifying in fourth. Round five and six would contain misfortunes that would greatly diminish ineX Racing's chance of a team and individual championship. The points gap between Luis Barbosa and Nolan Scott had already greatly closed due to round four, and the two would nearly break even at the round five Westhill race as an early race incident lead to a terrible feature finish for Nolan. Despite this the championship was still up for grabs as street car master Kevin Leu was still within reach of Nolan's points lead.
Qualifying would end with Nolan Scott taking the pole on his last possible lap. Kevin Leu found himself starting with several cars separating himself from Nolan, as he would have to settle for sixth on the grid. The sprint race started and Kevin would be able to make up several positions in the early stages of the race. None of this would matter however as Nolan would win the seven lap sprint by over five seconds. Kevin's fourth place finish would mean he would start several places on the grid in front of Nolan for the feature race. Once again the green flag dropped and the battle was on. Nolan was able to pass two cars coming out of the first corner, and it appeared that he would be in a great position to take the championship regardless of Kevin's finishing position. The battle for the championship would be heated up spectacularly in turn two as Wiesniewski out braked himself and hit both Scott and Leu, forcing them to spin. Kevin would be able to get away from the spin first but they both pitted on lap two. The one second gap between the two would not change for the remainder of the race, and somehow the two came back to take first and second in the feature. Nolan's second place finish would be enough to take the championship however, and despite not having a secondary driver in the last round ineX Racing would take both the team and individual championships.
In the end Nolan Scott managed to win five races, and sat on the pole for two of the seven events. This allowed him to score 146 championship points. Keven Leu would take a strong second place in the standings with 125 points. In terms of the team, ineX Racing won the championship by 29 points over Conquest Racing thanks to Dennis Lind's win in round two, as well as the points scored in rounds three and six.
"I really enjoyed the challenge of coming back to LFS and competing in a top of the line series. This is the first Live for Speed championship I've fully and seriously competed in for 2010, and as you might imagine I'm very happy with the outcome.
At the end of the day this was all for ineX Racing and the guys that gave me the motivation to come back and run Live for Speed again. I wasn't quite as strong as I've been in the past, but that's to be expected with such a long hiatus. As mentioned in the final broadcast, this is my 26th Championship including team based series, and I can't think of a better administered, and driver based series to say I achieved this on. I don't plan on defending the title next season. From here on out I plan on focusing on iRacing and MoE, as well as possibly IGTC. None the less, this has been a huge confidence builder, I enjoyed every second of it, and none of that would be possible without the guys that put this together." - Nolan Scott
