Hey.
Just a heads up, there are some russian players or dedicated server outlets ( i do have their IP-addresses and ranges ) that are currently hacking normal every day 2003 servers and installing LFS dedicated server on them.
I am not a LFS player (yet, is it any good?) but i do know a thing or two about servers. These guys tried to hack my webserver (wich i keep non secure to have fun with people gaining entry, and to see what they are doing), but unfortunately i was in their way of doing so. They werent able to clean up their mess and hide their files etc.
I found a bunch of files and the dedicated server folder etc.
I have a question, does your game servers require SQL?
If anyone is active in the russian LFS community, or is familiar with these practises i would like to be contacted. You may do so to my private email account: [email protected]
By looking at the community there seems to be a great interest in this game, i wish you all the best, but please dont n00b out and try to be pr0 and "hack" non secure servers. Probably you would be with a computer full of horse porn by now since your connection works both ways and its possible to run scripts at logon etc etc with system account privilegies on your machine. Anyone who is interrested in the security aspect of servers may contact me on my email and i will gladly explain what the russians did wrong and what you can do to improve your security on your windows/linux/unix server. I do have experience securing all of them, but in general i like to keep myself updated on what methods are used by the black hats now a days.
To the russian hackers (most likely on this very forum), good luck with your further activities, may your path be more pr0 in the future.
Best regards
norwat
