Quote from detail :has anybody else tried the latter?

Yeah, i tried the demo, but was having a lot of problems running it on my PC, so had to go back to V 7.(something), but was still getting alot of CTD's
The graphics are imo better than MSFS, but, that's about all i can say in it's favour, everything else about it is pants. And whats the idea of a demo that turns off the controls after 6 mins illepall , you're lucky if you make it to the end of the runway.
I play flight sims mainly for the helo's, and X-plane has about 4 of them, so, it was quickly wiped from my HD, and bought a copy of FS2002 for about £2
We may all loath Microsoft, but, imo, you cant really go wrong with the FS series, and lets face it, you're never gonna be lacking a mod for it

Lies. Their OS's aren't much out of the box. But their hardware and games are all rather good. Every mouse in my house is an MS mouse because I like them so much (they fit nicely in my hand).

Good point, me too!
X-Plane is awesome. It is to MSFS as GT4 is to LFS. I think the graphics are slightly worse that MSFS's (although this isn't with the new Version 8 scenery, and ignoring MSFS X), but the flying experience is awesome - every plane flies just like you'd expect, and it's got some nice little features.

It's also very moddable, with a great community at X-Plane.Org, so head on there and see what tickles your fancy.

I take it your cheque is in the mail
Actually, no I bought X-Plane 7, which came on 5 CD's (one game CD, and 4 scenery CD's), and whilst I do play it now and again, it's something you have to be very serious about to get the most out of it. Same with racing sims - if I wasn't seriousish about sim racing I'd play something easier and more 'fun' like GT4. As it is I actually tend to play MSFS more than X-Plane, simply because it's lack of depth makes it more enjoyable for quick flights. I may yet buy X-Plane 8, but I don't think we're too far from 9, so I'll get that I think.

But recreating Memphis Belle landings in X-Plane, with cross-winds, engine failure, damage and what have you was possibly the finest sim-flying moment I've yet experienced.
haha, getting pro at CS and then all you see across the screen is OMFG LOL HACKER B4N'T LOL DO IT ADMINZ00000R
never stopped in playing dull games.
