...I've sent me money for S2 earlier today so i should have the licence tommorow or wednesday.

1st things first, is their any S2 servers that would welcome a n00b? Well, not exactly noob but i'm gonna try new cars and tracks so i dont think my driving will be too good.

2nd thing, any good car/track combos that i could possibly learn on? Or whats the best car for an S2 noob to start with?

Looking forward to racing you guys.

Cheers, David.

[MG] Racing (Public)

EDIT - Ok, all the servers that are run by teams (they usually care alot more about whether people are actaully having fun) will welcome newbs with open arms!
I think almost every S2 server welcomes newbies, no need to search a special one. If you just want to mess around then it's probably better to stay offline, but if you're serious about the racing and want to improve, then going online is the best way to learn to race (keep in mind, racing is NOT equal to hotlapping).

One thing though, you should stay away from oval servers. Usually that is the most newbie-unfriendly place, just because most newbies end up going to the oval at first, generally causing a mess for the people who want serious oval racing.

Soo, if you want to mess around or just feel the speed of the cars on the oval, stay offline at first, but anything else, hop online and have fun!
Most servers have no problems with newbies. As long as you play fairly (no weaving/blocking unneccessarily), pay attention to blue flags, avoid contact, and don't try to pass millions of people at turn 1 you'll be okay.

As for cars, the ones to learn on are the easiest ones. The FOX is a nice stable open wheeler (possibly the easiest car in LFS to drive), whilst for tintops the FXO and the FXR are considered quite easy (although I can't do the FXO for love nor money). The UF1 is easy to drive (cos it's slow), but to be competative is surprisingly hard as the smallest mistake costs you big time.

Basically, drive what you like, where you like, but know your limitations and be aware that other people on the server(s) might be much quicker than you, much more serious, or have a short fuse. Don't worry too much if you get the odd ban to start with, as there are plenty of servers to go around.

I would name a few to avoid, but it's not really 'good form' to name Andre's Fair Play servers etc. WHOOPS!

Oh, and resist any temptation to drive on the oval. Please. It's the most pointless racing known to mankind - 8 laps in the BF1 without lifting isn't going to teach you one iota of stuff about racing cars.

I've had a few accidents on servers but never intentional ones.

Thanks for all the help guys.
Dont be afraid to ask for help or setups from people, most are very helpfull with noobs just get some laps in to learn all the new tracks

May I be the first to jump the gun and welcome you to S2

SD.
I have one more suggestion for you and all other new guys. Listen. Listen to the veterans of LFS when they suggest something to you. Too many times a new guy is given some suggestion or some help with either driving or unofficial but common sense race ediquette rules and those trying to help gets a big "Stuff You" or something to that affect. Listen to others and be curtious to them and you'll do ok.

I was on a server not long ago and noticed the 3 others there were complete newbies, ie, 0 total laps on LFS license. I tried to help giving some suggestions as I watched and drove behind them. I didn't get any response at all. I even let them know to hit "T" to chat. Nothing. I thought, "Ok, just keep on running off into the sand and into that wall there then." A little later, someone else not so new, but not so veteran joined and I sent him a setup. Knocked a bunch of seconds off his time. Ended up having some great racing with him. I'm not the fastest, but I have been here for quite a while now, over 20000 miles now, mostly in FZR.
I've always welcomed help / comments into my driving just like i do in my coursework / photoshop work and i always listen to someone who is more skilled than myself. For instance if i saw you in a server and you said "oh, you could do blah blah blah at T2 and you'll knock off X seconds from your time." I would except that and try it out.

Got my licence today (yeay, post was bloody fast for once ) unlock later and go for a spin :P
hehe grats ive had S2 for a few weeks now, clocked up 3000 miles already, still got respectable times though, hope you have fun racing us
