i mean it isn't that i don't want it but my dds folder just exploded in terms of size, compared to the orig... :P
anyone thought about far cry and shader model 3? (i know dx8 used atm, but the technique...)
i mean the example of the stone normal/bump maps that is actually the same on all stones but looks different everytime...
Sth. like this would make huge textures a bit odd since you could tile the normal/bump much higher? (meaning more tilings per 2048 pixel) and it would still look unrepeating...
Its nice, very sharp. But I don't like the way the tarmac and the grass come together. Maybe add a little piece of the tarmac to the grass texture? Like this:
(off-course as little as possible because otherwise you would think the grass is still tarmac. :P
I'm using Devil007's tracks which are much darker than the originals, but I haven't accounted for that with my textures just yet. In a way, I still think it looks a little (pseudo) realistic, because it kinda looks like the've layed the new road on top of the old road, the old track surviving as a bit of built up lighter coloured gravel at the edges. That's the theory anyway! heh. I will work on how to join these textures better. I'm busy also trying to get the different grass textures joining up properly without noticable tiling, and other stuff... wish me luck!
Micha-
It would be cool to be able to work with bumpmaps, normal maps, specular, parallax, and all that stuff I don't have a clue about. Maybe in S3... could be a fun learning curve.
New grass, plus a small bonus upgrade for the tire barrier.
Holy cow, I think i'm addicted to this stuff... ...
Enjoy!
PS- Darkone, I haven't done anything accounting for the black tarmac yet. And since i'm testing on Devil's track, I'm not really sure what it looks like on the original. Will let you know of an update in the near future...
Your new gravel & grass texture updates look like a vast improvement over stock ones, unfortunately I can't test because my ISP isn't compatible with Rapidshare Any chance you can upload them somewhere else like Megaupload?
Unfortunately it's the same w/ me and megaupload. But nice people seem to upload it to there once they have the files. Anyone help out Rtsbasic? :bananalla<--- surreal...
working on joining up the grass w/ Devil's track texture. There'll be something released hopefully later today. Also, has anyone noticed that one of the lower res grass textures persists at certain points in the track? It's a grass edge texture, like the replacement, dry sketchy grass with a hint of gravel at the edges. I cannot find where this file is located. Anyone know? I'll fix it up if I can get to it...
I'm amazed how well LFS is holding up in regards to these huge textures all over the place (many 2048* textures now). It hardly seems to make a dint in performance. I'm running an x800pro on a 3.2gh intel mb. Not bad by any means, but certainly not the fastest setup available atm. I have 3 different versions of LFS on my HD, a plain, unmodified vanilla one, and 2 others for experimenting w/ different textures from myself and others. It gets quite confusing trying to organise and remember all of these textures this way, but on the other hand it's easier than constantly swapping files over everytime you want to see how something is looking. Sometimes when checking out how a texture is doing in-game, I accidently run two instances of LFS at the same time (forgetting that one is already open), and still- no performance drop. I wonder how those with more modest systems are doing with these textures? The only negative impact for me is greater load up times of textures at the beginning of the game- which is easily dismissable as it has no effect in game, and only happens once.
Added a hint of gravel spill to match up w/ Devil007's track. I've found it looks silly when you go overboard with it. So, it's pretty subtle. Anyone running Devil's tracks wanting nicer grass should check out the download below... Tell me what you think, i'll try to accomodate other opinions on how to match up the grass and the gravel.
For anyone who hasn't noticed yet, I'm now fully fledged S2 licenced. This means I'll be able to work on some other tracks now! Blackwood is pretty much done to my liking- Devil007 and I are planning to release all of our textures for this track in one big .zip. Gravel and grass textures are cleaned up, some graffiti removed from one of the ads, track finished (I hear from Dev007 ), so, um, yeah. Coming soon...
I going to dedicate my efforts here to Haikoe, who so generously provided me the S2 voucher!!!
Sounds good, be sure to keep us posted. I've enjoyed the updates you and Devil007 have released for Blackwood thus far, if you get the bugs ironed out that would be great.
I guess Tagforce was right all along. Once you start you just can't stop...!
Although I think this is my last tex for Blackwood...
I wanted to do a higher res version of the dirt/mud splattered wall for Blackwood. With this one, I've had to go through many different iterations- some small, some big, mostly tiny (It's very easy to observe tiling with this texture, I've toned down the detail a lot just to get the balance looking right ingame). Eric's original texture is really great- lots of detail (unfortuantely low res), it's balanced and looks natural. If Eric is listening, I would love to get my hands on a higher res version of this texture!
I'm still working on this one- got the tiling issue sorted, fairly happy... I still want to put in the rivets, and get it looking as close to the original as possible. Its funny, this texture looks way too dark where it's placed along the starting straight. You can hardly see anything, it's just kindof black. Eric's original texture, you can see all the mud.. hmmm....
PS, I've posted a few screenshots of some of these textures in the raw screenshots thread. If you like, go check 'em out :magnify:
Should be any day now. Heck, I guess now if you want! If I can get permission from Devil007, I can collect his stuff and mine together now to make the zip. Then I'll upload to Rapidshare, and inform the guys who offered to host at their websites. I'll try and get this done tonight. Thanks for staying keen
edit- sorry guys. Sleep has taken over. Will try again tomorrow...
