Augusta National comes to mind. They are just selective, an invite only club. No women, first black member was in 1990 or so, and I'm not sure there are more than that. Not illegal. Controversial, yes. But not illegal.

The house across the street from me had one of my friends "escorted off the premises" just because he was Indian, and another had entry to the house blocked because he's black. Of course they didn't say that it was because of race, but it clearly was since they had no problem with me. And it sorta stings as their friend, because there is nothing that can be done about it.

source: my Business Law and Ethics course/textbook, in which we just learned about exactly this issue in reference to American law. Can't say I know anything about Scottish laws, I just wanted to correct logitek becasue he was making things up

I see one problem with this...and that is ..it's about blacks...why not redheads...I hate RedHead Guys..I love red head women, as long as they are not Scottish cause i hate potatoes and we all know...they smell like dirt...Potatoes I mean, not Red heads or Scots or blacks...so

that's just the examples that came to mind... it could be any race/ hair color/other meaningless difference between people.
I'm white, the Chinese club at my college has the right to refuse to allow me to join the club.. same idea applies for Augusta National.

Thanks for the answers, all. For people who are interested in why I asked this question: No, I'm not a racist. No, I'm not opening a BNP pub. No, I'm not xenophobic. I thought that the owner of a pub or restaurant was able to put up such a sign ("No black people allowed"), but I'm happy to see I was wrong.

And just aswell you were wrong. Could see any future pubs or restaurants you decide to open getting closed down within a week.
