So I thought I'd see how the FZR would look if it was made from wood and then carved. I used a striping pattern I made for another car for the decoration.

Any and all comments welcome, and if anyone can post links to other wood cars, that'd be mean.

I'll tell you what I would do different:

What meets the eye in the first place is your wood is much too bright, it'll need half or just a third of the actual colour saturation to look believable.

Secondly I can see the wood through the stripes which does look weird. I would've chosen a bare metal look for instance like on old chests.

Also I would have faked the carved look. On the back and front of the car there should be rings visible from the wood. Then again you would have to adjust the wood grain onto all surfaces which would need many many hours of work probably to make it look good.


Just a few tips that went through my head.^^

it looks really orange, maybe make it more white or yellowish. Very nice skin!!!

As stag said, reduce the saturation. It actually looks nice

5tag - I really like your idea for the metal bands - i might have a play on that tonight.

Rather than a solid wood look as you described, with the rings and all, i might go with the paneled look, sorta like a barrel. We'll see how it goes...

Bubinga is about that colour. Some walnut can look as red as that, too.

I got your point, did you get mine? I'm just saying (in a race for example) you need to have a second or third look at the car to recognise it's resembling a wood look. At first sight overall you won't be likely thinking "Oh, that's clearly wood there!", will you?
