just to ask..i can only find file's from interior.. where r the 1's for exterior??
are they olso .dds files? because i can't seem to 'change' anything but the .dds files.. any help or is this unable?
Are you talking about the car skins? They are cleverly hidden in the folder called Skins, and are in jpg format.
If you want to edit a dds file graphics you need the dds texture plugin from Nvidia site. Its free, its downloadable and googlable.
haha .. ty,
i downloaded the file allready the skins a can 'make' too, i meant about the 'car model' but i know this isn't possible... but eerr this i kinda silly to ask.. what programs do you people use to make lfs?just to get an idea of whats needed to make a game..
You would need a 3d modelling program, not a 2d art package. I use 3dsMax which set brother dearest back a healthy £1,600. There are cheaper and free modelling programs but if you're wanting to get into making games it's pointless learning tools that you then wont use later on.
It takes around 1-2 years to master a new 3d modelling program, and a further 1-2 years to get good at making 3d models for the type of application you are making (ie: If you want to make models for computer games your skillset will be useless when making models for film work). These timescales assume computer literacy and artistic talent, which in itself is rare.
3D modelling is a unique talent because it requires your brain to be strong in both the left and right hemispheres at the same time. This is also true of games development, which is why there are quite a few women in the games industry - despite the quantity of men into games, because women who try it often do well.
To give an idea, i've been using 3dsMax for about 3-4 years now and this is the best I can manage - i've a long way to go. Admittedly it's not my primary usage of the computer (I mostly program the games) and my brother is much better in a similar timescale.
free roaming and real rules sounds mutually exclusive. League racing in LFS gets you real rules, most LFS leagues run MSA / FIA regulations or a variant thereof, with just a few LFS specificisms (such as shift-s allowed or dissallowed etc).
The sig link currently points to waterworld, it is one of my 200+ odd games. This one is still in development (as and when I feel like it) and is an example of what I can produce on my own with none of my development team mates doing their thing. Only the music is 3rd party (writen by my associate Rachel), the rest is all me me me .
It's a necessary evil, piracy doesnt pay when you are a software developer. It's one thing being an end user, but when you release product that is clearly made in a particular tool you just can't use a pirate version.
Sometimes we 'stretch' license agreements, for example we cannot possible afford or justify two copies of 3dsMax, yet we both use it (me rarely to be honest), i'm sure discreet dont mind though.
With .mp3 you have to pay a license when you get to 5,000 downloads which costs £20,000 per product if I recall, but luckily our download figures are no longer statistically reportable (I wonder why) and we just will never know if we get 5,000 or more downloads.
All of our tools are fully legitimate, all the compilers, all the modelling tools and convertors, we have lifetime license for Deep Exploration for instance, which is a few hundred quid - basically it's a 3d model conversion tool to move an object between formats. Various specialist tools such as tree modelling apps, internal room modelling tools - on top of this we make a lot of our own modelling tools for specific purposes.
Then there's the 2D programs, I recently got Corel Paintshop Pro X, although I preffer version 7 so I have a hooky copy of that and normally use that instead - I figure i'm licensed, so I stretch the rules there.
Making games is very expensive.
Then there's distributing them, thankfully in the last few years web site hosting has got a lot cheaper - it cost our old sponsor several hundred pounds a month to cope with the bandwidth we where using back then. Now bandwidth is cheaper thank god - but our current sponsor gives it to us all for free and I highly recommend them as a web host (well I kinda have too dont I!) http://www.xrshosting.com (i'm actually sponsored by the corporate parent company, but xrs is probably a better deal for end users).
Having said that, I find no other hobby in the world quite as engrossing, rewarding, and mind expanding as game development. It sure beats watching TV of an evening.
It's nice getting in the magazines from time to time too, although they can be a tough cookie to crack. A few years ago when I was most productive I got into about 6 in one year - none of my other achievements quite stroked the ego as much as that
damn! thats a long text! woow!
i understand it tho
but do you really don't know any other "real life car sim" besides lfs?
thank you for the explenation
I make games, I rarely play them. I tend only to know about the games other developers are talking about (have you noticed how many game developers play LFS ...!?).
On the plus side I get to play a great many games before they get released. On the down side I dont know what ones come to market and what ones never make it.
I do know, as a hobbyist racer myself, that LFS' physics are about as good as a game will get. It just needs a force feedback chair and it's there...
do you have the full version?in the demo you can't go far...
if i would have the full version...if you have it,
could you send a copy? [email protected]
Just tried the demo- I'm gonna give it a shot with my DFP in the morning. This seems like a better thing than the Focus Driving Test Practical software for a start. What we need is LFS physics in something like this.
Does that even work with a wheel? I think I tried some of that naff software a year or so back and all I got was the choice of using the keyboard, or keyboard.
The German thing says it supports a wheel to 200 degrees. The Focus product didn't. What's the betting that BSM uses this 3D Fahrschule thing in their £20 quid a shot 'simulator'?
but to get back to the rearl question,
i can't change the car model right? not totally but just little things,
like the bumper?(the question thats been asked for a zillion times )
