No sound on Vista
The menu music plays fine, but i dont get a clicking noise when i click on options. Noor do i get any engine sounds, skidding, crashing etc.

The game also runs fine, but not tried unlocking as i dont want to waste an unlock. (incase i have to revert back to XP)

I think its a codec i need to hear the RAW files but im not 100% sure. If its that, could i be pointed in the right direction please

Im running the 64bit version if that makes any difference.

HI,
I got same problem. There is no sound in Liveforspeed on Vista.I am running 32bit version thought.
I have sound in menu,my movies has sound,I can listen to music.I tried also other games including old Enemy Teritory(Open GL works on Vista:-) ) and this has sound as well.Only LFS doesnt produce any sound:-(.I cant unlock as well but thats already in another thread.
It can't be a codec issue, because RAW files aren't using codecs. It's propably just Vista itself. Only sound card currently working "flawlessly" is the SoundMAX integrated audio.

(I had the same problem with an Audigy, sounds started working after I started using the integrated SoundMAX.)

I installed Realtek audio drivers and my soundcard works fine everywhere except the LFS.All other games have sound...it looks more as LFS issue because the engine sound is not raw file(i didnt not have any sound in LFS thought).
You cant expect Microsoft would fix something just for LFS but considering Vista is beta it still might changed. We have to all hope so otherwise Scawen will have to investigate and fix it:-(

I was suprised how smooth Vista worked on my PC.

It's probably down to the audio stack in Vista, which is completely rebuild so it differs quite a lot from the one in XP. Seemingly that causes some compatibility issues with LFS.
Nothing Scawen can't handle I think
Go back to XP!

I'm sure when Vista is launched then LFS will migrate to it!

Is there any option like there is in XP for backward compatability?

yes
Yeh im back on XP now. Not unlocking was a chunt tbh.
And the MS Vista problems begin!
I intend to hold out as long as possible with XP.
Who the hell came up with the name "Vista" for an OS anyway?

Revert back to XP!? You mean you installed a Beta OS (from Microsoft!) over the top of XP, instead of setting it up on a partition or separate drive as dual boot?

You're a brave man.

Anyway, I'm going to give Vista a go later this week. I'll report back on how it works with my sound (Realtek 5.1 audio integrated on an ASUS mobo). I'm sure Scawen probably has a copy of Vista beta, but if we can identify any issues that the game might have with Vista under various configs here, it might be useful. (and, hey, even if it isn't, we'll still be wasting less bandwidth than people posting attachments of various drift skins created in MS Paint).

You will have to download the Vista Drivers from Realtek webpages as Vista dont recongnize Realtek sound card directly during instllation.

Well...its still Beta.
i had the same problem

the solotion is to go to options

misc

adjust sound lag to .25 or higher no lower -.-
thats it , you're right ... adjusting to 30 works fine for me ...

Vista does not currently work properly with dual boot I tried, it failed, I removed Vista Seems to be a common problem to do dual boot with Vista and XP installed on seperate hard disks. On one using seperate partitions seems to work. Didn't tried that, yet.

ive got xp and vista dual booting on 2 seperate partitions, works fine.. lfs has no sound though
i only have vista, looks like im screwed when its a final release! LOl
Why do you only have vista?

I just finished my year at college. Music, pics, my docs folder and college work on a seperate HDD and my comp was running as shit as a Rolls Royce with a 1l Mini Engine, so it was begging for a fresh install. So it was no skin off my nose
Um, try running in compatibility mode.

right click on the shortcut>go to properties>Compatibility>enable compat. and set it to Windows XP
For sound problems, try to press shift+N when in car.
Quote from SpaceMarineITA :For sound problems, try to press shift+N when in car.

that doesn't fix the issue in vista. it appears to be some issue between lfs and direct x audio, and only adjusting the audio delay ingame and possibly reinitializing the audio <shift+w> will work. muting and unmuting <shift+n> doesn't work.
I'm glad I found this thread. I was also having problems with audio in LFS in Vista with Realtek audio on an Asus board. for me, anything above .27s sound lag works, but at first it didn't. what i had to do was <Shift+W> to reinitialize the sound engine then it worked. I stepped down a .01th at a time until sound cut out, which was at .27s. Hope this helps some of the other vista racers out there.

oh, i'm also using the 0.5U11 build. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.
AS I SAID!!

the audio at .25 pops and crackles on my computer. I have to use .29 or .30, but anything .26 or above produces audio of some sort. but yup, your solution worked like a charm, the value just isn't universal across all computers
