It's interesting reading however I can't see peoples urge to do drugs anyway.
Personally I've never been drunk and for the last 2 or 3 years, the only alcohol I had was 2 of those little glasses of Baileys. While I did do drugs at one point, that was because I was a mess and had nothing else to turn to (take my word for it) and even then I was like "What the **** am I doing to myself?" and stopped after about a week.
I agree that Alcohol is the most dangerous drug. Some girl I know actually died at a houseparty because she got so drunk (she didn't normally drink..) and as if that wasn't enough, one of my closest friends got raped at a party by some half drunk guy. All you need to do to see how dangerous Alcohol can be is to watch one of those stupid cop shows on Bravo, Traffic Cops or Night Cops. While many people enjoy just a relaxing pint or two, perhaps with a meal or with friends, the larger majority unfortunately will have 5-6 pints (as a starter) and then carry on with whatever shots and leftovers they can find till they are unable to walk unaided, or at least control their actions which means they would refrain from violently assaulting people.
With all the resources we have to spend in terms of rehabillitation, police on the streets, prosecuting, jailtime for crimes performed while under the influence, surely the government would save money by just banning Alcohol. But no, the greedy bastards don't care about us at the end of the day.
The only reason Alcohol is legal is because the government get so much money on the tax from it, because they can control it to some extent. The only reason LSD, Mushrooms, Cannabis, etc are illegal is because the government can't control them.
But back to my original topic, drugs are a way to escape. If you have a good life, a happy family, kids, girlfriends, whatever, a good job, money in the bank and what not, I see no reason to take drugs other than to try and fit into a crowd. You don't need to get high because you're already living a 'good life' and have no reality to need to escapae from..
Take 10 young people (say from 11-21) from the deepest slums of London or some back street alley in America and 10 people of the same age from one of those posh and stuck up areas (like Cheshire or some posh place in London) and I'm pretty sure the majority of drug users will be those who have the poorer quality of life. And while yes, alot of 'richer' kids/people do drugs, they'd never admit it, neither would their parents who want to believe their kid is perfect.
I'd rather someone smoked weed or whatever then got drunk.
