Its not dead and he is not saying that , what he is saying is its boring as bat shit and i have to agree. But not because LFS is a bad product by any means its because doing anything year in year out becomes old (apart from sex and that changes when you get older too ).
Yes, this same thread again. Except it doesn't argue that iRacing is better, because it ain't. Nor that LFS will never get better - it will with the patch and hopefully more content after that. Nor that people must read this, because all you have to do is skip the thread if it don't float your boat.
What it does pour some fuel on the fire: the "community's" apathy at putting this great game to use. Cruise isn't freaking racing. If I wanted cruise I'd go play GTA or something. Endless XRG/XFG/FBM or GTR@AS3 monotony is not fun, any way you spin it. And that's saying something about how overused these are, because outside this here context, the current state of things, they're really fun combos. Just not after a million times.
Yep
Good for you, but LFS is my thing.
Yep. Major turn off. If I recommend LFS to anyone, it won't include checking out the "community" forums, outside of league listings.
Exactly the type of mindless drooling crap that's helped LFS get where it is now.
But, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
"To be honest" - No. Way. You mean you can actually be straight forward honest on a video game forum? What a crazy thought! And people will actually tell you what they think in response? Incontheivable!
Your point's lost in what vaguely sounds like an assumption that your MO is my MO. I think I can get away with one salient and well articulated rant. I don't make threads every other day. I didn't play LFS for years, barely looked at the forum and much less posted. Now after a few years I check in with my feedback: It's a single thread, not two or ten or fifty. I'm doing what the forum is for, not with stupid teenage airhead meme parroting
but with what I consider fairly made points.
As much as the lack of updates' a calamity, I'm arguing against what could actually be done, what's feasible. Not what can't be helped. My beef ain't with the lack of updates.
Thanks, nothing wrong with the pimping, it's exactly what I'm after and what LFS needs more of. I'll check it out.
Not the point. Aside the fact that I don't want to pay such a fortune for iRacing for what's probably only marginally better (tallying all the pros and cons), and aside whether Scavier could or couldn't take LFS that step further in realism, if most players do nothing more with the game than some trite cruise and drift servers, and put no effort in hosting/populating a good variety of public servers, the best sim in the world won't be worthwhile.
Well, good for you as far as iR goes, and yes the crucial point is good leagues and public races. The latter certainly isn't there.
That ain't the topic.
It's late. What the heck do you call over a year of zero developments? No cockpits, no new cars to put some flavor in the current mostly-4banger models, nothing. Not even Bob's NASCAR Tweak.
I don't actually get all soppy about it. Calling it miserable is just blowing steam.
Not saying so. It's the sheer lack of any racing variety on top of the long dearth of updates.
Thanks for the effort, but is it an LRF league? F08? GTR without a billion pages of rules and pedantic pretention like "we are serious men seriously racing; follow these anal-retentively meticulous rules that make no difference to the ACTUAL RACING" ? -- that's only slightly exaggerated from a few "popular" GTR leagues I've checked out.
Delay isn't what's disappointing to me, but utter blandness of active server choices, and no LRF racing that I can see. Scavier made this great game and it's barely exploited.
Now to counter the above negativity, I'll point out the one positive I did come across; and without which I'd have accepted that nothing can be done and that it is a dead horse not worth beating (and gone back to a few years off LFS without posting this) - FM (whatever that clan is that came from FPS games and started with 24/7 ovals a few years ago) FOX junkies: Consistently full-ish grid, admins present, continuous track rotation (and by vote too).
Now that's how it ought to be. LFS servers wouldn't be so empty if they were more like this.
Check mate.
So that's it, I shot my load. Going back to lurk mode.
"Good race"
Our current leagues involve a restricted FBM, and GT2-class GTR team-based endurance racing.
We are currently deciding what to do with our winter single-seater series - it may be FO8 - the votes are tending to support a desire for FO8 at this time.
Last winter we ran a TBO series and a season of the Road Sport Cup (RAC + FZ5) - Those will likely return after the 1st of the year. We're willing to entertain suggestions too.
We have fairly long rulebooks yes, but that's so we have a solid backing for decisions and event control. I will always support fair and sporting competition - fun is to be had, but a bit of seriousness is expected to ensure the event is smooth. The best races to me are the ones where I'm just there to do the start and then the results afterward.
And the "it's not dead" was at others, not you. Sorry for not making that clear in the first place.
that isnt enough warning if you dont understand that. the whole game is translated to my language but thoose rules arent. I didnt know what nudity is. I just understood 'pornographic' which i avoided. Why they say nudity & porno is nono? It should be enough jusy say nudity, because any porno contains nudity. Anyway its pretty stupid to play with people who pay to them just like that. I recommended to buy the license to some of my friends and some of them really bought that, but i will stop with that.
i dont know why are the servers empty now, but when there were old demo with xrt, i have been always during day/night able to drive rallye with xrt on more than one server. now i can just choose cargame or cruise
I'm not feeling my normal self today , off work (nothing to do with CoD:BO)
Just lack of sleep and manflu. So bear with me if this post seems a little o.0
Damn right, forget the childish selfishness that they wallow in here, get in your favourite car and drive. Emotion is transfered from person to person, knowingly or not.
Online racing community much different then the negative naysayers in this forum community as dagde so eloquently stated.
For me LFS the quality it delivers online Has never changed from the vibes i had in 2003 2004 2005 (ok 2005 that was very good year) 2006 etc etc.
Its a state of mind ladies & gentlemen, the sooner you realise this for yourselves the better it will be for the everyone, yourself included.
We all make things what they are, from this community to the ones with your friends and family.
To the original poster
Sure the servers have changed, dont get stuck joining the most populated servers, thats a common mistake. Cargame is a Glorifed CTRA (which like a few other longtime racers/admins will agree, fragmented the community.
Join the less populated ones, make it point to try a new server each week.
But the thing what gets me is why you think LFS is boring.
You say its the combination available to drive, but this has always been the case since s2 (so much more choice) Yet people like to join the busiest (usually same old same old multi-class crash fests)
When the best racing experiences takes usually just one other driver
Some of the best racing I have ever exeperienced is with small grids short sprints, with equally matched racers in skill and mind.
Maybe alot of the old crew you raced with gave up and left? I know how that goes.
I Raced for dSRC from just after conception through the amazing times (2005-mid 2006) till 2007 where i left to regain my bearings at that time most of the team had the negative mindset regarding LFS, and I didnt.
So later on I joined a Team I admired since I Was a demo racer and just starting out in LFS.
Team Inferno, Like dSRC they had been at the very top along with mercury, when it came to reputation, but this team too had problems, I enjoyed my stay their but never really succeed in acomplishing anything in terms of racing.
But I hope I helped others find a passion for LFS again, maybe yes, maybe no.
Now I am racing for R2R and let me say this now, I feel like its 2005 again with this team, I feel within this team a great spirit of positivity and skill.
Its just a shame they all seem to be french (mostly)
Its a state of mind my fellow racers, I am lucky I guess, I dont get bored easily, sometimes even staring at a plain wall can create thought you never dreamed of, even though you were just staring at a blank empty canvass.
there are still some Racing leagues where you can drive some nice races.
LFS isnt boring its just there isnt anymore new Content to have fun with.
We got a 2 years Old LFS now without any further updates.
I remember the Time when scawen published SO Chicane Route and the FBM.
There where so many Servers that get rushed over but now its become silence time and it wont end until S3 get Released.
You are right, public servers are really boring. But in leagues its much more exciting(havent tryed yet though lol). iRacing has few problems what lfs doesnt have and thats why I stick with lfs:
1. Races are like 18:30, 19:00. In lfs u can race when u want
2. No mouse support. In lfs u can just take car to the track and drive. In iRacing u have to plug everything to the computer and fight with the pedals(I cant drive if theyre not in 0angle when compared to monitor)
3. No automatic gears. Well this is good and bad thing. U have to srsly learn the tracks and shifting points but sometimes its just annoying.
I theory i have about public racing not being what i used to be, is that by this time most players have tried out league racing, when i entered my first league. Public racing died completely for me, the level of driving is on an entire different level. Maybe not skill-wise but certainly crashwise, since you loose points for crashing people dont tend to take to many stupid risks.
Driving the boring GTI/BL circuit for 6+ years... still not boring, exciting as ever and I'm not joking,
I Don't think I've seen a bigger gulf between the crap that gets posted here and what LFS still represents .
Public racing is very healthy, jump in the water's lovely
I love the stress in competitive races and the fun in drifting.
That's the only thing that keeps me in lfs (and my team too aand my site lfs-bg.net :razz.
That's what I do. Unfortunately that means e.g. LRF server where there's only 3-4 people on, and then only for 20min or so. You could argue that I oughta stick around and wait for new ones to join, but that's not feasible. I can't justify standing in front of the computer waiting for other players somewhere on the net to connect. "If" everyone did this, it'd work, sure. With some luck this thread will make this point bounce around in enough players' heads to put things back on track. But personally I suspect way too few players really care to learn or have the patience for anything but the easiest and/or already well-worn tracks like those I mentioned in the OP.
No. I remember LX/LRF servers, more GTR servers (a couple AS3, and at least one other track), occasionally F08, etc. Arguably only marginally more than what we've got now, but that marginal extra was enough.
Yep. I'll happily take ballast or a slower car, or start from the back of the grid.
Sorta. They did, but I also played about as much on random public servers.
This is partisan BS. Plain and simple. There's barely any variety. Something like half the active servers are demo = not just microscopic car variety but also capped at 12 players. No LRF servers. No GTR variety. And so on; no sense repeating what I'd already said up-thread.
