Simple things, like clutch and transmission settings being car specific, for example, if you have a Logi G25, H-Pattern shifting with no autoclutch in road cars, stick sequential shifting with auto clutch in the GTR cars, as well as the FOX and possibly the F08, and paddle shifting with auto clutch in the BF1. Hopefully the wheel/hands settings will also be car specific, for all the people who drive with the wheel off, but have to turn it on for the formula cars.
Really strange priorities I would say.....especially as the majority of the LFS-Racers would probably not really benefit from it.....
Edit - Not that I do not like the idea, but seriously.....the Sounds are very, very, VERY (!) important!
You've got to remember, that the engine sounds of GTR are one of its major selling points.....and GTR really was a major hit
I think that weight distribution should be the same, but not force one side. In this country we are capable of driving on the correct side of the road but the rest of the world don't realise it
I've never really looked at it closely enough to notice a performance difference or advantage due to weight distribution or balance. To be honest, I have bigger problems to worry about! There may be a visibility advantage too (if the windscreen pillar obscures the view more on one side than the other for circuits that are clockwise or anticlockwise), but again I've not really made the comparison.
I'm currently living and driving in the US, so I find sitting on the left in my virtual car more comfortable that the right. For me it's just natural at the moment. If I was back in the UK, I'd probably switch back to the right in LFS. It's just what I'm used to at the moment, but it doesn't take too long to adjust (like in real life). At least there isn't the problem of virtually walking around to or climbing into the wrong side of the car in LFS
As to making it a 'forced' option, I don't think it's vitally important (even if there is a slight performance advantage to one or the other) and would certainly piss a lot of people off. I think I'd choose having server a option for turning off auto lift on gearchange before an option forcing which side the driver sits.
i have to agree, lfs is best racing-sim ever in physics and multiplayer, so i wont stop using it, but the sound sucks massive if u compare with the competition of lfs.
physics are great now (minor tweaks can be done l8a), graphic is great too (even a nv6600 can handle 8x aa and 8x af at 1024x768), multiplayer section is best ive ever seen in a game till now, but if u compare SOUND with even a (in my eyes) bad racesim like rFactor then LFS still loose
so my point is, i want a soundupgrade, and i think its needed also for commercial marketing, couz all shabby racesims that comes out have more realistic sound than lfs... (anyway cant take my hands off lfs)
i would probably agree that the sound could be a little better, but i really think that bot AI is far more inportant atm for new peeps.
I have put LFS demo on about 5 machines now and in each case each person wanted to practice offline against bots (as i still do myself, lol) rather than go straight online with the pro's :-).
Its hard enough just learning to drive in this game (well LFS does boast being one of the best driving sim's ever concieved, and quite rightly so), but to be rammed by a bot at the first bend, or last, or any other bend for that matter is just plain annoying.
I'm not asking for them to be perfected, but there are two things that really, REALLY important and IMO need to be looked at:-
1. bots need to be able to see you and brake/swerve rather than ramming you off the track.
2. bots need to make space for you when overtaking and not force you onto the grass, lol
Apart from these two points, i love the bots, LMAO :-P
.... suffice to say, out of the five machines i have installed LFS on, none of them are playing anymore - i really do think without the learning support the bots could be offering offline, online play for newbies (and all the heated noob comments / voting / slagging that entrails) is very little fun at all.
just my tuppence :-)
QD
ps. did i mention THE SOUND !!!! lol
aps. nice work guys on a most wiked game, it rocks my world :-D
The cars being left or right hand drive doesn't bother me at all. I grew up in Germany, and recently moved to the US. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Those countries are both LHD". This brings me to the next part. While visiting my aunt in Japan (yes, she's Japanese), I got to drive her Silvia. Very fun, and not hard to get used to. The pedals are all in the same locations, but all you have to remember is to shift twords you in a RHD (duh for those who already drive RHD), and away from you in an LHD (Again, duh for those who already drive LHD). But, I don't agree with the cars being perfectly balanced with the driver in it whether left or right drive. GTR cars MAYBE, but definately not road cars. Go out to your driveway. Look at the car. If nothing's wrong with it, it should be sitting mostly level from side to side. Get a friend or loved one around your weight to sit in the driver seat. You'll notice the car's suspension sort of squash down on that side. Weight not balanced anymore. What I'm getting at, is that it would be less realistic if the car was balanced no matter which side you were sitting on. And since this is a sim, going the opposite direction of realism, to me, is a no-no. Love it or hate it, there it is...
No offense, but did you miss the point? Are you saying it is more realistic for people to magically swap the side they sit on to suit each circuit? Are you saying that giving an unfair advantage to those that choose to use wheels view because they can switch sides without having to adjust is more realistic?
They might be "road-cars" but if something is used for competition purposes then measures should be taken to ensure that everyone has exactly the same equipment imho. The difference between rhd and lhd might be tiny, but it is there, and there's no reason why it should be.
I can't understand what's so unrealistic on changing side when driving... wait a second, you can't change side while driving, you have to pit first! So we're giving better driving to some drivers, and worse driving for others. I personally haven't changed my side for 3,5 years. (I'm on left)

1. Sound:
- better engine sound (kill the bees)
- gearbox sounds&whines
- backfiring
- generally more sounds
- maybe even make some of the sounds customizable so that we could create some own sounds
2. graphical/GUI:
- much much better looking cockpits
- different cockpit textures for XRT/XRG/XRR etc...
- updated Kyoto/Fern bay/any track
- simply better menus (usability)
Wear rate is, does anyone use hard compound tyres outside of the BF1 now?
I'd like to see a some new sub-90 second combo's sometime - although I dont hold out for any as soon as patch V. It's not enough to just run every combo possible on the existing tracks - a "circuit" needs certain things to make it complete, a big stop, a 'classic' overtaking place of some description, and at least 1 technical corner. What makes SOC great, it has all this in just 3 corners...
I would like to see improvements in sound not being too far off, give me my backfires!
I'd also like to see gearbox wear and missed gears, at the moment the fast drivers are barely touching brakes - whilst there is some realism in this, it just isn't right to be slamming the car into 2nd gear at 140mph to slow up for a hairpin and getting down to speed in 40 metres.
I third, forth, whatever... the inclusion of better sounds. In fact, i'm kinda holding out for the new patch before getting serious about obtaining my s2 licence. Money is just a bit too thin to be forking out for a game right now.
But a really awesome game, with fantastic sound... that could be a different story!
I love LFS as it is, but the sound for me atm just isn't in line with the rest of the elements which make LFS great.
Ps, - and maybe some official high res textures thoughout... mmmmm...
Basically I agree w/ hyperactive, although I wonder what's wrong w/ the menus? I mean, have you seen rFactor?
Hyperactive, please don't take this as an intimidating post, but how do you know these things?
I'm just trying to get a grasp on the situation of some "S2 Licenced" people knowing more about what's going on with the game then other "S2 Licenced" people. Are there some S2 people that are involved in the updates of LFS?
Nope, we only know what is fed to us. Some of us, like Hyperactive, remember what has been said and mentioned by the devs over the years, and compile unofficial stuff from that. None of it is gospel, and there's a chance none of what he says will be in the next patch, but at the same time it's fairly likely that it will be.
We know things like Scawen wants to improve the AI before S2 goes final, and we have an idea of the sort of progress Scawen is intended. But beyond that (and the other stuff mentioned in Scawen's post and LFS interviews) it's all educated guesswork and conjecture.
but ya, tristan is right, the longer you've been here the more you kinda have seen brought up; the thing is though, none of it is the hard fact; all of the "older" users here were just as surprised as you were when we got the BMW Sauber in patch U so
also, another good thing a newer user should do is go check out the original LFS forum at RSC and look at some of the threads; even look at the older threads
which.. bringing that up, anyone ever notice how much the devs posted early on? even eric posted!
I would like to see more usage of different tire compounds too, but compounds really come into play when you have differences in track temperature. On sunny days track temp could well be over 100 degrees and R2's simply couldn't handle these and people would have to run a harder tire =)
Gearbox damage would be nice, like becky said slamming into 2nd gear from 100 plus isn't exactly accurate. A better damage simulator would be nice too, I would love to see flying tires =)
