I went into my local dealer about getting iPod fitted to my car.

He brought me out a box and said "yeah this is what you need, blah blah" so we went and got it all booked in. This was last Thursday.

Recieve a phonecall 35 MINUTES AGO - and he says that it's not a part that's availible anymore. I mean wtf. They said they will call me in the morning to confirm but, still...wtf?

iPod integration was one of the reasons I chose a Golf, as it can be done without fitting a chavvy radio. I've seen loads of people online who say the part IS availible from Volkswagen so is my dealer being gay?

IT'S A GOLF MARK 5 OK?!?

don't go to dealerships they overcharge you anyway. Is it an old enough car that it still has a DIN slot for the stereo, or integrated?

If it's integrated, just find a good, reputable stereo installation company and get them to do it, would take half a day tops, at a guess.

Say what now.....could be a winning sig

Try phoning a local car audio place and see what they have to say.
Could be that an aftermarket item is available.
The kit uses the plug on the back of the stereo which a CD Changer would go into, and has an iPod cable on the other end (instead of a CD changer..) Mine doesn't have a CD changer so THERE'S NO PROBLEM.

It's well advertised VW have this part availible.

Bean0, you're right, there are plenty of kits availible on line, it's just hassle. And I want to be able to tell VW to stop fking around with me and get me this kit sorted.

Garph, how's that funny? I know it's not "proper" iPod intgration, I just meant could be wired up without having to fit a chavvy stereo. WHICH IT CAN BE

Perhaps go to another dealership. Or, if you are on a forum/group for the car, see if anyone else has it, and still has a listing for the part number (or works at a dealership and can throw you a bone)

If it's just a cable, it shouldn't be that hard to obtain...

Yes he is. Try a different seller.

Proprietary VW connector on one side and proprietary Apple connector on the other, sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. I bet if you can find one it'll cost as much as a new radio.

It's your dolla, you can spend it on whatever and however you want, BUT, saying that the ipod thingy was a reason you brought the car (and its clearly an important one) cannot be ignored. Giggles must be shown!
I knew the Golf did not come with iPod as standard. Most cars before 2007/2008 didn't anyway. I wanted fairly easy integration. I had done my research in the "looking for a new car process". I also didn't buy it "because" I could get it. I liked the Golf in general. But if it was not possible to fit an Ipod integration kit (however crappy) then I wouldn't have bought it. It was a factor in the purchasing decision.

I know it's 5 playlists/100 songs, and 1 playlist which plays all songs. Not ideal, I will admit but then again that's better than 20 or so songs which is what I normally have on the CD's which are rapidly stacking up in my car and keeps the nice appearance of the interior.

Thanks Erik for that. I'll call my dealer an idiot and tell them to go f*** themselves in the morning.

Does anyone know what the best adaptor kit would be (bearing in mind I have the RCD 300 stereo and want to keep it..)

Ideally I'd like to control the iPod through the Head Unit and also have it charge from the cable as well as i hear some kits don't.
Was it a VW Dealer? Find a TPS (Trade Parts Specialists), they all genuine parts for all VAG cars

Who the heck uses regular CD's anymore ? Even my 92' Transporter has mp3 player (i didn't buy it it was in when i got it).

It was VW Ridgeway in Newbury. I've emailed a local ICE place to see what they can do but I don't want some cowboy taking my car apart, I'd rather pay a little more for VW to do it hence why I went to them in the first place.

What irks me is that the guy showed me the part in the bloody box and now they're telling me that they can't sell me it. Like wtf.
You're an idiot. TBH this suits you right for being one - when you first told us here you wanted to buy a car around your ipod I already laughed my ass off and now you've ended up with one you can't actually fit the ipod in. Irony eh?

Giggles aside, when you google "car stereo ipod" would the first result suit your purposes? If not why? What year is your golf? If it's an early 2000 one it doesn't even have a proper stereo, just buy a new one with integrated ipods in it.
And you're German. Frankly that's more funny. Sorry because I am into my music and it plays such an important role in my life, it's funny I want that in a car? Maybe you and your Oompa music aren't quite so close.

I have googled it already, I'm somewhat familiar with the concept. I can see zat plenty of people (AS I HAVE ZED!!!!) have fitted ze iPod to their Vaulxvagen Golf Mk5s and zat VW zemselves do a kit but zey have told me zat they cannot sell it to me, vich is vi I am angry.
My VW dealership couldn't be more helpful. Unlucky.
i just dont get why u dont just get a radio that supports ipod?
theyre not all that expensive...

Because the Golf radio is all built in.

Finally, someone who UNDERSTANDS ME. I like the Golf radio, it's nice, sound quality is good, nice finishing quality, suits the car well. I don't want to rip it out and have some chavvy little JVC radio that bleeps and boops and has green lights flashing at me!

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Finally, someone who UNDERSTANDS ME.

HOW CAN YOU EXPECT ANYONE TO KNOW WHAT MODEL YOUR CAR IS IF YOU DON'T TELL? UP UNTIL 2004 IIRC THEY WEREN'T BUILT IN.

For future try and remember not to buy a car based on the stereo. Or if you do get an Audi A8 with the awesome bang & olufsen speakers that rise up from the dash.

BTW you should be glad to not get one from the dealer, looking at the prices it's a ripoff.
Why you did not buy better radio with at least MP3 support when you bought the car. Even my 2 years old Renault has it.
Anyway if its connected over CD charget output you should be able to find plenty of aftermarket one. Even your dealer should be able to install it...

Is every thread this guy makes just him bitching about something he didn't understand properly before he purchased it?
Yeah I don't understand this. You invest money into a car, you should know it pretty well.

My car came with a 6 disc CD changer and an AUX jack (iPod/MP3 etc). The CD player also played Data disc. So I just put 150 songs on each CD, and I got 900 songs in my CD player. Win.
