I have been practicing my scratching more, and while im still by no means good, i think im improving.
Don't get me wrong, its still riddled with mistakes, as i havent got the hand to hand control of working record and fader at the right time every time just yet, although when im not busy making mistakes its not too bad.
Even the scratchmaster sy says, hardcore is very fast and not at all easy to learn on, but fook it, i like to go fast, even if im not capable really!
what way is your crossfader set up? the best setting for nice scratching is to have a short fader.
the scratches you're doing are called "baby" scratches. here's a video lesson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKEQAtrWzPo
look for more. i have the dvd. it really helps.
this is the first battle routine for when you've got the first few lessons done. i think there's 5 battles in total. each one covers all the lessons. lamb chop is the last one. it's epic.
the advantage of midi is that you don't need pioneer, you can use a pioneer skin on the software you're using. but other than that, the hardware you use is irrelevant because they control the same software. most of the pioneer CDJ's are midi compatible so you would just hook your CDJ's up to your laptop via usb and you can then control the virtual decks using the CDJ's. same with some new mixers too, they also have midi support so you can control the virtual mixer using your hardware mixer.
you could get something like this: http://www.thedjshop.co.uk/dig ... mp3-e2-dj-controller.html but imo, it looks too much like a toy.
but i am going for this one: http://www.thedjshop.co.uk/dig ... /numark-mixtrack-pro.html it's cheap enough and it still looks like a bit of equipment rather than a DJ hero controller. it doesn't come with an on-board sound card so a 2nd sound card is a must (i have one).
as long as you are able to mix your mp3's with very little fuss, there's no point in going midi. if you can use usb memory sticks on your decks, don't worry about midi. there's programs out there that will tell you the bpm, key and key code. so it's really easy to build your set on the pc and them mix it on the decks. that's what i do. i build my set and then burn it twice. one deck plays track 1,3,5,7,9 and so on. the other plays 2,4,6,8 and so on.
armin van buuren burns one track per cd. he then labels it displaying bpm, key and key code. he then knows if it will mix into the tune playing by matching the the labels.
here's the mix i was workign on. i like it. sounds old skool trance. i also managed to drop a dubstep tune into the mix too. all done in key code 8A. http://www.atcteam.org/dadge/M ... rimental%20Aggression.mp3 let me know what you think if you download it.
It has that name because it stops slightly short of the full hour set i wanted to do, and the reason for that is that i ran out of tracks to use that i havent used in other sets, i dont like using the same tracks that are in previous sets.
same here. new mix from some tunes i bought online last week. it's 136 BPM (nice pounding trance). i have two versions. one is ~80 mins long (cd size) and the other is 2 hours (mp3 player)
Yeah pretty much, although i have the iphone vdj app now so i tend to use the phone screen for the mixer as i can move stuff around quicker, thats when my net isnt being crud tho, as when it drops out it makes it lag.
It does look a lot clearer than this, but for some reason everything i upload to photobucket using the phone gets compressed down to less than 40kb, god only knows why lol
Oh, and i have now ruined that scratching record, managed to wear the hole away so its now too big and shifts about on the platter, resulting in huge amounts of jumping
i have a tip for you. find an old sticker, specifically the grease paper the sticker is on. with the grease paper, cut a slither (5mm x 50mm). put the slither into the centre hole in the record. make sure the greasey side will be facing out. tape it to the record. repeat the process if needed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzNoPBUf21E
Any Budding DJ's out there who would like to get one (or more) of their mixes played on Innervisions ERadio?
pm me a mix and if it's good enough, i'll submit it into Project Eden Sunday Take over. Unfortunately Dan, they don't allow Hardcore. But most House sub genres are accepted.
Well, since that scratching video was made a few months ago, i have been practising, a LOT, and im still by new means an excellent scratcher, but i think im getting better, heres what i did earlier on.
