Only if you're an idiot who can't adjust your perception. Also, I generally go by the rule that, if a car is in my side mirror or my peripheral vision, I can't do a lane change.
Isn't that what side mirrors are for? They're definitely not for looking at what's directly behind you. You have the rear view mirror for that.
Yup, the point of reference is that, the car just left your rear view and entered your side view. Know your car and you know where the car in the mirror is. If it's not in your rear view, you don't lane change.
I agree completely but when driving a van or something with no rear window side mirrors become a whole different kind of necessity.
Actually they are part of a larger see what is behind you package. They are to look behind you in the spots you can't see with the rear view mirror. Bikes come up again as they are easy to miss if riding in a blind spot.
When I am driving a car with 3 mirrors I will check all three in a sweeping motion as chances are you'll pick something up in one mirror you don't see in another. They aren't just for changing lanes on the highway.
I actually use mine more when driving in town because I know there is a chance someone on a push bike will be sneaking up on me.
Yeah I'm always spotting cyclists with no ****ing lights approaching in my left-hand mirror, I should run them over really.
I hate bicyclists. They always cycle about 20 feet out from the curb and cause people who actually pay road tax for their vehicles to be delayed as they wobble about.
Further more, they seem to be completely oblivious to red lights and while they have lights, which is good, they have those stupid HID's that Kev dislikes and while that in itself isn't a problem, the fact they are 4000 million watt and aimed straight into the windscreen of my car means I can't ****ing see where I'm driving.

It's drivers on the motorway with high beam on that pisses me off, glaring your mirrors to ****, the whole point of high beam is for when there is no other ambient light around, you could drive on most motorways with no lights on at all, as the motorways are pretty well lit, WHY GOD WHY LET THESE RETARDS DRIVE, they BLIND people, then wonder why they are getting cut up and shit.
See, that's where we are different over here. We don't pay a specific road tax. Our roads are funded by tax on gasoli...... oh....

Aha, I was talking to one of my American friends last night and she was saying how she couldn't afford to go out driving, etc, due to gas prices. I'm like, sorry, you're complaining about a $3.50 gallon? One litre costs £1.35 here which works out at about $2.2. So it costs us basically $10 a gallon, and while no-one is happy about it, we don't complain! But personally this is going to be the reason why some people have to sell their cars, downgrade to smaller ones/move house, because it's simply too much.
It costs me now about £65 a week just in fuel. It's not like I have a V8 either, I have a economical little diesel. Bearing in mind I only have about £200 disposable income left over at the end of each month, you can see the problem.
I'm not sure what the tax system on fuel in America is, but here, if gas was £1, then about £0.82 would go to the government. Basically, we pay fuel duty TAX on the fuel, and then pay some value added TAX on the duty TAX we pay so effectively you're paying tax on a tax which is technically illegal.
As I recall you have to pay to get new tags on your plates every year, which is pretty much the same thing. We just call it how it is and you put a little sticker in the window rather than on your plate.
Our Vehicle Excise Duty has not been used for the upkeep of the roads for decades, it goes to the Exchequer's big opt with other taxes.
Biker gets rear ended.
