You'd be entirely different if you'd actually played the sport. Box Lacrosse is great fun. Run around, cross-check people, slash them, all to try to score goals. It's terrifically brutal at the best of times.
My mum's punto (a 1.2, 10 years old, 60k miles) used to get 42mpg-ish with only town driving and I had 65mpg on a run to Birmingham and back once. My Corsa (1.7 cdti, 3 years old, 55k miles) does 40ish with about an 80/20 split town/motorway driving and 48 at a push on a long motorway journey.
The engine in mine is known to be complete shite for MPG but point is, don't knock an old 1.2, they're a hell of a lot lighter than newer cars (and diesels).
what kind of daihatsu do you have? I was going to suggest the 1999 mira, yes daihatsu = toyota brand
Toyota/Lexus/Daihatsu
Nissan/Infinity/Datsun
Daihatsu is to toyota what Datsun is to...? I think >_>
meh. Daihatsu mira is my suggestion 700cc ftw
EDIT: they are/were being used here as the replacement for the mini moke as a 'cut down car' and can be had for cheap...ish....if you are a rental company :/....damnit
Rover 25 or MG ZR ? Both hugely under-rated cars. Also, the reliability is no-where near as bad as people say - our K-Series was absolutely knackered, but the HG still didn't blow. Also due to the K-Series being so light, very economical.
Fairly cheap, but yeah, more like 40+ MPG. Our 45 1.6 does an average of 47 MPG though, not bad for a car bigger than a Focus. Can't imagine a Focus of the same age getting near that.
Bought a Toyota Yaris SR 1.3 about a year ago- I think its a perfect cheap small economical car (50.4 combined economy). Paid 1.5k for an Xreg. Nothing rattles, workes like clockwork (all SRs of that period were Japanese built! Some Yari are French built -booo). The engine is so smooth and quiet that I have turned the ignition key on several occasions while at the lights (with the engine running I mean). Highly, highly recommended car.
I did my research and it was rated 5 stars on Honest John, was highly praised on BMI (albeit in a modified form. Great driving position, handles well. Only downside is motorway- a bit noisy. Not rattles, but tyre noise - the wheels are a bit small after all...
Looks cool as well imho- Here is my baby
PS Diesel Yaris will do 70mpg but the car is no longer "cheap"...
