Request PM's for reasoning behind closing threads?
Yesterday I started a thread, which I thought was reasonably well thought out, and reasonably polite. Note, I'm not so much angry about it being removed, but I would at least like an explaination as to why it was closed/hidden/moved to another location.
I'm not trying to drag up the dE thread and my thread specifically, but perhaps it may help the community understand where it goes wrong, if we have an explaination to the thread creator, why the thread was deemed inappropriate.
I know the thread you are referring to, and i think Scirocco moved it to "the trash can". I don't know if you know but it had got onto its 4th page and was no longer a sensible discussion thead, and was just a quite boring thread of conversations with a hacker guy making false accusations and going on about his 500 accounts.
So i guess it was moved in the interest of keeping the forum content sensible.
Maybe it's a good idea to write to thread starters if their thread must be moved but then, i guess Scirocco didn't know that you hadn't been watching the thread, in which case you might have known why it was moved.
I don't know, maybe these "name and shame" threads aren't a good idea because they just create arguments all the time. And the forum's not a nice place to be if threads are just full of angry arguments.

Perhaps it wasnt such a good idea to name and shame, but I was kinda annoyed at that point, and I do think the community needs to be aware that there are people like that amongst us. Regardless of whether they already have an S2 license, they shouldnt be trying to get around the licensing.
I thought it was perhaps something I had done wrongly; and given that a number of threads have been moved/altered recently, maybe we (the community) need help in shaping our threads and discussions in future?
What about making a thread which contains the names of all deleted threads and the reasons for that?
Could be just one post in a stickied, closed topic.
1) ...we don't need guidelines for common sense things, like how to behave as a human.
2) ...there won't be loads of deleted threads. There are two recently, both of which turned into pure "insult and argument" threads.
The forum isn't somewhere for people to have arguments, it's a place to discuss things in a mature way. When threads turn into childish insult competitions where no one can back down and everyone needs to get the last word, then the thread is likely to be deleted, i guess. Moderators get under pressure to act when they start getting PMs from other people complaining about the threads. So eventually they feel they have to remove them, if it's got that ugly and is of no benefit to anyone except the people who like arguing so much.
TAA: Your thread was originally a good thing and quite constructive, but around midnight it all became a bit silly, with many many posts per minute, and a bit of general rudeness towards 'you know who'.
Axus and I already knew it would be closed/deleted sooner rather than later, so it's no surprise to me. However, a teeny little bit of me hoped that the silly posts later in the evening could be removed, leaving the thread as it was at about 7pm (and closed of course). That way the info is still there, but the offending bit wouldn't be.
Either way, I don't mind. The person in question didn't really deserve to have a thread about him. And was saying some rather accusing things about you The!
Unfortunately Scawen, what one person classes as common sense, maybe different from another. Some people dont have any good equitte what-so-ever
My point was mainly that the thread starter doesnt always see the entire discussion - for having to goto work, or goto bed, or spend some time with the significant other (to avoid neglection), and as such we maynot understand why its closed, and it may harbour bad feelings
Dont get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that anyones doing a bad job - far from it infact
Not much argument and insult in the things i wrote. So it is a mistake to remove posts that is inside the rules here in this forum. Maybe in the thread were my posts was there was some insults, but you didn`t gave me a chance to read all in that thread because it was suddenly moved/deleted and thats not fair imo. IN a thread like the dE there could be some posts that was insulting, but then only remove/delete the posts who is insulting, not ALL posts. And some also said that our posts in that thread was off-topic and therfor moved/deleted, but in this case it should have been put into the off-topic forum. Arguments are inside the rules, insults is not....just my humble opinion..

Bad idea...just lock it. There could be some very interesting posts in a thread like that, so just delete the ones who is insulting.
There arises another problem:
You will have to gauge whether to keep the thread and lock it in order to stop the discussion and allow peolple to read it, or to delete it because the content doesnt not allow that the thread stays alive.
The mod must decide what to do, and as I said above (or in kid's thread? dont remember...), such a decision is always difficult and you will very likely have people being unhappy with it.
Let's hope that threads like this won't show up again, this would solve the problem on it's root
from me u can be sure threads like that wont appear any more. from now on all i can say around here is the usual futile praise.

this is the last time if talk of that de thread. it went like this for the ones that didnt got the chance to see it:
1)what are your thoughts on de mobile car.
2)ppl posted opinions on the topic, also mentioning the enviroment where
such an idea, where such a car, was born.
3)80 to 90% of opinions were negative on both car and de.
4) then, some dude(A) quoted another dude(B), that quoted me, that unfortunately for him, agreed with my opinion, and was bashed by dude(A) that instead of posting his opinion on the topic, came to the thread and posted after the quote, "yeah, if you are 13y olds". which is simple linear trolling, and i have 0 prob with that. i reply to that. i think someone that comes to a thread and posts deserves a reply , no matter how sad the intention is. so he got his reply. he was so amazed to get a reply back he acted offended when he did cast the first stone. thing his, if u cant brawl, dont troll.
that was a contained, 2 vs 2 posts affair and was basically done. posters kept posting on topic. then it was suddenly deleted. bang.

now, if i didnt complain, who did? the troll that came try insult and bait 2 ppl with one post by calling them children? so u throw the first stone, get the reply, then go complain to mommy? and mommy attends your request?
dude if u dont have forum experience , dont mod. honest.
the fact the mod in question here has background interests or liaisons with the topic in question, and makes a secret about it (god knows why) makes it even more suspicious, but thats not my prob. what it is, is my disillusion.
thats why i wont post anything else constructive around here since its obviously , not welcomed, not protected, not safe from random spasms of crybabies at the helm.

The problem is, as i see it, the thread was going on and, nothing to do with your posts at all, others were having pointless arguments. Apparently Gunn was receiving complaints about it. I assume that when he received complains from users, and he also didn't like the insults going on, he decided to move the posts.
Only, instead of moving the exact posts, he decided that it would be more fair to move all OT posts, rather than just the offending posts. Clearly he was trying to keep the forum clean. Clearly it has all gone wrong somewhere and i'm quite fed up with this, really boring.
Can't we just let it go, and see what happens in the future?

Honestly you wind me up all the with pathetic arguments with people, you think it's good fun banter but to most other people it just looks like you can't get a grip on your temper, never accept anyone else's viewpoint, anyone who says anything that doesn't agree 100% with you deserves a bashing, etc, and you always have to have the last word, and you generally stir up arguments. People like you are the reason that moderators have to step in.

Also gone and read the deleted posts sequence. You are basically right in your overview of that conversation, except for one point you have missed.
You have missed out the point that for every comment aimed at you by the other member, you always hit back harder. He always hit back gentler and you always returned again harder. That's the problem. If this world was full of people hitting back harder than they are hit, then all humans will be wiped out very quickly.
To external observers that's obvious. It's that same thing that for every one sentence aimed at you, Kid, with either some negativity, or even a simple disagreement with your opinion, the response back from you is likely to be half a page.
The other thing you won't let go of, is that you believe Gunn has some kind of affiliation with dE, which he denies. Well, either prove it or shut up! Just because you have an opinion, does not make it fact!

I'm sure that Gunn would think twice in future, if removing such a large sequence of posts is really the way to go.
Just try to find some kind of forgiveness in your heart, for his decision, under pressure, to remove a sequence of posts. How many kittens will die? Will the world fall on our heads? How serious can this really be?

I saw the thread and decided to leave it be while I went out for a quick bite to eat. Upon returning, it was up to 3+ pages and not much more than a mud slinging spamfest. That's why it was moved.
