Command to Save Setup?
Is there a command for saving a Setup? If not, it would be really nice to have one. For example, when in the Garage, have a command that will allow one to save the current setup with a specified name. It is always possible to keep all this info in a notebook, but in this computer age it should be possible to save this info in a file.

Of course, it would then also be nice to be able to load a saved setup into a car in the Garage.

Thank you.

Ted
Setup changes are saved automatically, if you want to rename a setup just create a new setup with the correct name you want or just rename the file from the setup folder.
The automatic saving feature does not solve my problem. While developing a specific car I would like to be able to save individual setups for that car. I realize that I could define a different car for each setup. That would soon swamp the list of cars in the Garage. When developing a car I would like to be able to test a sequence of, for example, roll-bar stiffnesses, to determine the optimum. I want to save a series of setups for each car, just like can be done for physical cars. The current capability is possible, just more awkward than necessary.

Thank you.

Ted
You can, simply name it Set a,b,c.....
car setups
You can save and load setups as you want.

All you need to do is create a setup, click on New setup and give it a name.

e.g. BL1_Basic

Then run a few laps with it, decide what you'd like to change, say you decide to add 2 psi to front tyres.

Return to garage, click new set and give it name.

e.g. BL1_BasicFT2 (as in front tyres +2) use whatever naming scheme suits you

Make some more changes just repeat the above procedure saving each time with a different name.

You'll end up with a list of setups you can load at any time you like.

Once you arrive at a setup you are happy with you can remove all the inbetween adjustment sets.

I can't see how it can be made much simpler than that?
I think what he wants is to be able to disable auto save and have a manual save option so not to ruin his setups when tweaking them.

*sigh*

Just create new setup with name 'test'.. tweak it all you want until you think it's what you need, and just rename it to something useful.
If you create a new setup it copies all the values of the current selected one. I can't see a problem of overwriting old ones when making a new one is so easy
It is possible to make a "New setup". This defines a new car for each new setup. It is then possible to use Windows Explorer then to save the setup-file for that car with a new name. Then, later it would be possible, again using Windows Explorer, to rename that file again to make it useable by a car.

However, this is very awkward. What I would like to see is the ability to save and recall setups for a specific car. The procedure would be similar to that currently available for saving laps as raf files.

I hope people won't interpret what I am suggesting as a criticism of LFS. I think it is a fantastic program. I am just suggesting what I think would be a very significant improvement.

Thank you for your comments.

Ted
Do you not have a rename button in LFS?
I think he means he would like something Like this

AFAIK if you have installed LFS correctly File association works fine.
Double click a Setup file on your desktop and it will copy it to your installed LFS/Data/Setup Folder.

*edit*

IF there were default folders for each track etc, could it not be made so that when a player sends the set on a particular track it gives it the prefix of the shortname of the track.

example:
player A, sends a set to player B
this received set automatically when saving gives it the prefix and is automatically placed in the track folder.

Again this would also help with the file association of double clicking a setup file and copying to the correct path.
Possibly this has been mentioned in the past, just thought id bring this back up

But My picture above really does show a folder system is badly needed also, and a quick button to controller options would be nice
I want to be able to have more than one setup-file for each car. It would be very useful to be possible to save a number of setups for each car, with user-specified names for each setup file, and also possible to load a previously saved setup file from a list of previously saved setups for the car currently in use. This capability would be very useful in the car-development process.

Ted

Gener_AL (UK), How did you get that?

Do you mean folder, or file? If the latter, that functionality is already in the game, and has been described to you in this thread. If the former, then it really isn't needed as all of the setups begin with a 3 letter car code, so they are essentially sorted into folders anyway.

You can just hit the new setup button as much as you like and name them. Have a trillion setups if you like.

I don't get how you do not understand this.

I'm just a little dense. Thank you all for your helpful comments and suggestions. LFS really is a fabulous program; I wouldn't call it a game. This Forum is great too.
