Suddenly... Awesome flight sim released for PC
A proper hard core flight sim in 2011?

DCS: A-10C

Falcon 4.0 is still unbeatable with the completely dynamic campaign but the latest DCS sims are really damn good. Price is indeed rather high but you get sick detail and accurate representation of the mighty A-10. And the build seems very stable and bug free on my old comp.

Check this shit out!

MADNESS!

It is on!

By the way, don't be scared about the detail. I've had the game for a couple of days and even with my cheapo MS stick the game is fully enjoyable and learning curve is very manageable though naturally quite steep. Remembering what all the most important switches do and how things get going takes some tutorial hours but having an iPad or another comp next to you to browse quick start PDFs and vids make learning easy.
blew my mind, time to get a joystick.
I've had Black Shark for a while now, I've been waiting soo long for this

..in case you still haven't bought one, I'd heartly recomment Thrustmaster F16000M. :3
Hm. Maybe I need to get something that isn't a 360 controller for flight simming.
#6 - 5haz
May have to, good old Lock on was almost too realistic for its own good back in the day.
Well, When I get home I'll probably buy one off EBay. Saitek X52 or whatever.

Another recommendation for the Thrustmaster T16000M. If that's what E.Reiljans meant. Haven't come across an F16000 yet.
Hm, I asked my friend who is pretty hardcore into flight sims (he preordered the aforementioned sim in this thread).. and he recommended me some 500$ thrustmaster, the saitek, or some crappy cheap logitech (best, mid, poor).
those videos look fantastic. I thought the Blackshark looked good but this looks even better and just as hard!
having played both ms flight sim and flightgear, i'd give it a try if there was a demo.

I bought an X52. I thought it was absolute garbage.

A single spring around the stick shaft? With a sliding spring cup? That is acted upon by the hole in the base the stick shaft sits in? What a cheap, rubbish design...

The static friction... holy crap...
Hm, then Forby... what would you suggest?
X52 Best choice for the price

True, this is the worst aspect of this stick and is unforgivable of Saitek. However, it's still the best stick/HOTAS for it's price. Anything better will cost a lot more. And anything cheaper wont have nearly as many buttons or as much functionality (which the X52 has in spades & DCS:A10 needs). There are also ways of fixing the friction problem with various lubricants or cable ties on the spring etc to reduce tension.

I use the X52 and play DCS:A10 with it and it is perfect. Any stick with less buttons would make playing much this sim more cumbersome. With the x52 and the right profile you can map every button and control that is on the real A10's HOTAS to the X52.

As for the sim? It's mind blowingly detailed and a real joy to play. Best modern combat simulator ever.

I really like this, it's so adaptable.

Yees, yeeees. More flight simmers get in here!

Had a quick run through the first 3 campaign missions. Got shot up pretty bad on first but managed to land at home base (and not explode while digging myself into the field next to the landing strip). All realism options on and getting a hang of it, starting up the plane, dropping some munitions and navigating. Hitting anything with the cannon needs lot of practising.
First campaign, 4th mission. Ran into a volley of heavy AA while gun strafing some tanks. Took a lot of hits but thought I could manage back home despite severe handling problems... like missing my whole right wing.

Just bought it. Gonna get an X52 in the upcoming weeks.
Not really a huge fan of flight games, haven't played any for months - But was a fairly intense FSX player until I ran out of missions, I need to do things to achieve them, not to have just completely un-mission based gameplay.

Maybe this is something I would consider, depending whether there are missions that you play through, like FSX, how easy it would be to use with my low end Saitek stick...I mean, if it's not any more complicated than FSX I would happily give it a go.

The only thing that gets me, from watching the videos, it seems that alot of the controls still rely on the player looking around the cockpit with what seems to be hundreds of little buttons.

Too much hassle for me at the mo', me thinks. But hey, maybe I'll get bored and try it one day.

Essentially it's what you'd get if PMDG did combat sims, and Scawen did the flight model

There's a guide somewhere about pulling apart a WiiMote and installing the guts inside a glove which, together with a bit of clever software, turns any screen into a touchscreen.
