Server Choice - Semi Serious
Okay so i just bought the game a few days ago, and problem i have with playing blackwood DEMO servers is the first corner crash, even if i try to avoid 50% of the time end up getting cleared off the track... Mildy annoying.

Now I know i cant compete with the top racers in say a 5-10 lap race, but want to improve.

Are there any servers running where BEFORE you can even participate in the main race, you have to time trial on the track first and get a fast lap requirement to enter the race? By doing so you are eliminating a lot of the noob first corner crashers..

As I am new havent found any way apart from just joining loads of servers and trying to race...

Naturally i dont want to join a server with 5 year vets on the track where they end up lapping me but just want to slowly improve and would rather do that online doing races than alone hotlapping...

Any advice on servers to join would be appreciated.

Thanks and hopefully see some people in game later.

Obviously public servers are open to anyone, so you have to expect to race with people of any kind of standards, from very experienced people to newbies or dangerous numpties. Furthermore there is usually no quali/practice sessions on them, so you have more or less no way to get experience before racing, just join the track and try to catch the flow.

Then you can also race in events. You will usually find more sensible and clean people, good adminning, and well policed procedures with practice/qualifying/races, but also you have to expect to race against much more experienced and faster guys.

Now it isn't easy to find an event that fit you well. Try to have a look in the events subsection as Chris said. Or also have a look at the spdo Database.

Anyway as you're still learning the ropes I would advice you to begin on Dead Men Racing(server is called Dead Men racing) events if you can. They are having a 1 hour race every Thursday, 19:00 UTC, on various combos. You will find people of very different skills, and probably including a few having your pace more or less. More importantly you will find there very sensible, friendly and fair people.
Thanks very much for the replies chaps... Just been doing a few qual sessions on fun racing league server and then a race or two... yes i am way off the pace but managed to be one off the bottom qualifying wise... 1.58 i believe i was getting as opposed to the 1:54 of the top boys.

Great fun but there doesnt seem to be any progression overall or per specific server?

Maybe there doesnt need to bem, just turn up and race... but doesnt seem anyway of knowing if you are improving with overal rankings or not.... plus those stats seem to reset frequently per server?

Good fun anyway , games amazing....

4 seconds off the pace isn't THAT bad for someone with only a bit more than 1.000 kilometers online. I'm sure you can do great with more experience and some good setups.

Indeed, that's the way it is, the only real global stats are LFSW's, but they don't include rankings of any kinds, and they are sometimes quite meaningless if taken without any kind of interpretaton.

I know this quite differs from iRacing for example, but that's the way it is.

If you care about progression and rankings, just check standings in leagues you are involved in, or !top commands and internal server stats on public servers.

Oh and BTW, the spdo Events database also show some stats based on leagues(not all though, mainly the most established and most serious ones), but in the end you can give the same remark than LFSW, quite meaningless overall.

I agree! It would be easy to get another 1-2 seconds and after practice some more, another 1 ;-)

And also, ask for setups. There are always racers that share their sets
Demo servers
Have you tried Redline Racing Demo servers.

Whilst the standard there is fairly high, with many drivers doing Low 1:33.xx times in XFG and 1:32.xx in XRG we always welcome beginners.
I assume you meant 1:38 instead of 1:58?

As long as you want to race seriously and move over for the faster guys when necessary.

The server is manned for a large part of the day with Admins and marshals so the racing is generally very clean. Crashers and bad drivers are warned and removed from the race if they don't improve their behaviour.

You'll often find many people to give you advice on improving as well. I can usually get most people into 1:34's after a few days.

I'm on most days especially between 18:30 and 21:30 BST

I'm usually racing as RedlineQuinn.
Try AMG servers also, sort races with good drivers, fair and clean.

1.58, FBM@AS3 ;-)
I think he was racing Track AS3 - FBM on the FRL server Jacksun

*beaten to it
Yes the 1:58 was on the track mentioned above. On the blackwood track I think I amat 1:15.18 or something which isnt bad but naturally can go lower . Thanks for the useful posts.

I tried looking before for the redline servers but couldn't find them. I will give it another look tomorrow once I finish work. Time to sleep now.

Ah, OK I was replying based on his first post comments.

jippyuk - Redline Racing currently have 9 Servers, maybe they were empty when you looked and you had Show empty Filter set to NO? (it's an option at the bottom of the ingame server browser list)

Or if you were looking at them ordered on name, they will not appear under R as the R character is made up from some symbols.
