...or he's just being smart. Maybe it really is pointless wasting tyres in qualifying and pushing too hard. Canada proved last year that Hamilton can turn the wick down and save tyres if he so wishes. He dominated other tyre saving specialists in that race.

He didn't push on his lap today and matched Button's pace AND has an extra set of tyres. If it was Button who had done that everyone would be waxing lyrically about how 'smart' he was.

So we'll see tomorrow (where inevitably it'll all go tits up after me saying all that)

Ironically, people still think Button uses his tyres less hard than Hamilton, but, on the Bridgestone that may have been true, but on the Pirelli tyres, there isn't enough data to compare them against each other yet, and there have only been two races worth of data, information to go off anyway, so it just proves, ever since China 08? or 07? When he went into the gravel trap that people just assume Hamilton abuses the tyres alot.

At least that's where I think it stems from, and I'll admit, I was one of those people who believed Hamilton to be harder on the tyres, but like I said, on the Bridgestone that may be true, the Pirelli's are a different ball game. Considering Button complains like hell about tyre wear at every race, in every session he drives in, and Hamilton just shuts up and gets on with it (when in the car at least) maybe people assume Jenson can manage tyre wear better than Hamilton...

Ben, you're talking to the guy who says Hamilton is great at looking after his tires despite the many races that have shown it's still not the case. Taking the only race(and a very out-of-the-ordinary-graining one) he may have managed to do a better job than others as an example doesn't make it a rule.

It was very smart to save a set for Lewis when they saw he didn't have a chance to beat Seb. He learned his lesson from Malaysia I guess. I have to believe he will eventually get good at this. Don't worry Intrepid one day you'll be able to say Hamilton is as good as Button on saving tires without looking like a fanatic.

Has anyone noticed Alonsos attitude to racing has changed since moving to Ferrari.

Agree, before Ferrari he was the 'Kobayashi', overtaking where possible and impossible.. now he leaves kinda empty feeling.

acording to what both mclaren and bridgestone said last year both button and hamilton are both easy and hard on tyres. button is easy on the "tread" but hard on the carcass as his smooth style generates a lot of carcass heat but not much surface heating whilst hamilton is hard on the "tread" and easy on the carcass due to his more "edgy" style, depending on the nature of the car, track etc, this can lead to a different driver having problems and also explains why button has at times struggled to have his tyres at opperating temp on a restart.

more importantly, will the rumours of vettel's kers system being cooked by him in qualifying prove to be true ?

and if so how much will it hurt him at the start ?

Watching the BBC pre-show at the moment, Hamilton doesn't sound very happy with his team. He is implying the reason of his poor performance in China was because of his team.
