it was amusing. at first.
then it just got repetitive. the same arguments, same retorts.
now its just arguing just for the sake of it.
whatever floats your boat, i guess.

And bump

Murdoch wants to either buy F1 or F1's broadcast rights

And Bernie's response?

Quote :
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone says the sport in not for sale following reports that Rupert Murdoch's News Corp is in talks over acquiring control of grand prix racing.

"It's rubbish," Ecclestone the Telegraph Sport. "The sport is not for sale."
Sky News reported on Tuesday evening the News Corp had been in preliminary talks over the purchase of F1, with Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim also linked to the deal by forming a consortium with News Corp.
The networks said the talks were at an "embryonic" stage at the moment.
The report also says that News Corp could "decide not to attempt to acquire a direct stake in F1 but instead bid for the broadcast rights".
According to the Reuters news agency, News Corp has had no contact with F1's current owner CVC so far.
The private equity firm purchased SLEC - Formula 1's holding company - back in 2006.

Must be the truth then, can't remmember the last time Bernie told the truth.

Even if he doesn't win control of CVC, the UK broadcast rights will surely soon be on Sky...
Anyone up for doing away with Murdoch before he buys the entire planet?
Quote from ATC Quicksilver :Anyone up for doing away with Murdoch before he buys the entire planet?

I'll get the getaway car if you can provide the "tools". :hide:

No but honestly, that would turn me into a casual F1 fan overnight were it to happen.

He is a massive twat that needs to stay the feck away from F1 and anything thats good.

- One more thing before I walk the dog - no ads in Sky footie coverage
- To all moaning Sky would be a disaster, name a terrestrial broadcaster with £200m to spend in F1
- One thing for certain - the BBC cannot afford Bernie's £200m fee a second time
- The Sky coverage alternative is not a bad one given the massive boost they gave football. Highlights for the Beeb??
- Could Ferrari be willing to negotiate with Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp and will coverage move to Sky??

Eason is just a puppet.
He's right that the BBC, purely from a financial P.O.V they can't really afford F1's price tag. Or maybe Bernie could only charge that much because the BBC were stupid enough to pay it and have dug themselves a whole.

I don't warm to Murdoch and I certainly will feel for those F1 fans who can't afford Sky, yet still have to fork out for the licence. If you could drop paying the licence and then use the money to watch F1 then I imagine people's reaction would be very different. But Eastenders is sooo good atm it's sooo worth it

I always assumed the price was determined by the competing bids.

Or have I missed something?
You're probably right, but in a normal market companies are forced to consider investment Vs eventual profit. The BBC doesn't have to profit, so when faced with a massive price they don't have to justify in the same way a normal company would. They got suckered in and paid way over the real actual value of F1. Hence why they themselves are re-evaluating whether they want to retain it or not.

I see what you mean, although i'd expect every channel to be constantly assessing the validity of their program purchases. For the beeb not to be doing that would be irresponsible.

It might be expensive, but imo one if the best things about the bbc is that they can do these things purely because enough if us want them to and in a better way than most commercial stations would, and if we don't want them to they have a much tighter time justifying it.

The BBC is not democratically accountable so they don't really have a hard time justifying something like F1. If it was I think they may not have so easily budgeted £200m for F1.

Having said that, it's clear the BBC are re-thinking F1 coverage, and they may be dumping it regardless of Sky's involvement (of which I don't think is serious right now anyway)
Sky tv is like bigbrother, the news channel is completely fox news style, and skysports is a bit too IM WATCHING IT IN THE PUB, for me... BBC have done amazing coverage. I don't think Sky could better that, considering ITV (Murdoch has a majority sharehold in this UK TV station I believe) coverage was absolutely SHIT, we can only go by what experience we've had, and that is, the BBC's coverage of the F1 can never be beaten.
I meant Sky channels. The Sky channels are full of shit/ sky1/skynews/skysports.

I'd imagine on skysports, they'd be explaining Formula 1 rules and technical regs to people as if they were 5 years old.

Also, you posted to me TV lisence ads... You still need TV lisence for SKY TV. It even says that on the first link you posted........ What was your point?
It wouldn't bother me if they have no ads and some decent commentators/presenters, no doubt though there will be ads every 5 seconds and cutting back to some ****wits in a studio like they had with A1GP, no thanks!

The licence fee is enforced on behalf of the BBC, not rival broadcasters. You need one to watch Sky, but it doesn't make Sky complicit in it's existence. Sky can't broadcast to non-licence fee payers. They, as well as others, would if they could.

I don't mind paying for BBC's stuff, because it's good. As you see from watching Dave. Pretty much all of the programs are very good indeed and they are all from the BBC. The BBC are the only television network WORTH paying that money for, sure it's a bit of robbery but I'd rather pay for BBC than ITV....
u cant pay for ITV without paying for BBC
Quote from BreadC :u cant pay for ITV without paying for BBC

Yes, but say it was reversed... or is it that hard to figure that it's an example?

Technically, if you're gonna be like that. You pay for BBC but since you need a license to watch TV anyway, you're paying for ALL the freeview channels. Yes. ITV included.
