LFS servers on Linux......
Just a little tip for those that might run LFS server in linux, particularly Ubuntu.. The version of Wine that is included currently in Ubuntu (11.04) software center repository is really old (like 1.0), I was having some weird latency and other issues, I uninstalled it and used "sudo apt-get install wine1.3" and now everything is running flawless... you can also install an even later build by adding this repository: "sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa"

You can check your current version with "wine --version"

Thanks for the tip
AFAIK the default version in Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 is the current stable 1.2 branch. Wine 1.3 branch is the bleeding edge development version which might work better, but it also can have some nasty regressions.
I only took a quick look at the ubuntu-wine/ppa, but it seems to me that it has the same 1.3 version as the wine1.3 has, perhaps it gets updated more quickly when a new 1.3 version is released.
I'm using 1.1.32 on CentOS for anyone who cares.

Rock stable (Uptime: 429 days(!), 10:05:10). *knocks on wood*.
wine 1.0.1 on CentOS 4.5, Uptime: 982 days(!), 12:24:41
i haven't noticed a difference in hosting servers with wine since the 0.9.x days... for what it's worth, most of wine's updates would affect a person playing in wine more than it would a person hosting a server with wine.

Nope, a lot of wininet stuff got fixed in 1.2 if I'm not mistaken.

But IIRC running native (copied from Windows) libraries can get all networking stuff work properly even in 0.9 branch..
I use 1.0.1 and it's working good, no problems. Only the $DISPLAY shit and warning about X.

Im hosting on Debian Squeeze without X.
How are the latencies like? I'd be interesting to compare old 0.9, 1.0, current stable 1.2 and development 1.3 in terms of performance and resource usage (though the latter wouldn't matter all that much).
You can ask me for testing LFS Hosting. I have VPS in Germany, on 1.0.1. You can take LFS server and test anything.
