Quote :Okay, so the world didn't end on Saturday. That's a good thing for most of us, since we can look forward to an apocalypse of another kind now: a new Carmageddon game.

http://www.carmageddon.com/ has a countdown, which seems to indicate that some sort of major announcement is imminent.

The original Carmageddon was released in 1997 to howls of joy from gamers and howls of protest from various people who are no fun. The game was tremendously violent, and rewarded drivers for taking out as many pedestrians as they could.

A sequel followed a few years later, but original still stands out as an all-time classic.

We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Edit, more info:

Quote :The Development of the new game

Hi all - just posting to set something straight. Our press release said that we are "actively seeking a partner with whom to move the project on to full production", which is being misconstrued by some as meaning that we want somebody to help us develop the game.

This is NOT the case. Don't worry, STAINLESS will be developing Carma:Reincarnation, entirely in-house. We still have five or the original eight Carma 1 team members here:

Myself (Lead programmer and half of original Carma design team)
Nobby (Lead artist and other half of original Carmadesign team)
Matt Edmunds (did the AI programming, now our COO)
Shaun Smith (artist, now Creative Director)
Dr Kev Martin (physics programmer (still) - single-handedly redefined video game physics)

Plus, from Carma 2

Trifle (programmer, now Exec Producer on Reincarnation)

Not to mention loads of really talented artists, programmers, producers and designers who have joined us more recently. So Carma development will not be put into the hands of anybody but us.

No, what the press release actually meant, was that we're looking for partners for funding, publishing, distribution, etc. I.e. all the boring stuff. So you can breathe again now. Panic over. Nothing to see here. Oi, I said **** OFF!

So, let the rumor mill begin!

NOw that it has modern graphics it's goint to be banned in every single country.

Rated N for no-one!
Holycrapholycrapthisisawesome

The Carmageddon demo was the first thing I installed on my first ever PC (133MHz, 32MB RAM ), after upgrading from an Amiga.
I enjoyed every single Carmaggeddon title that came out. Cant wait for something new!
I never played the first, or the third, but I loved the second one to bits! Great news Somewhat ironic, too, as I was talking to someone about the series the other day...
If they deside to do a remake of the Carmageddon 2 game in new graphics I would have an orgasm. The only problem would be the mad people trying to convince us that this game will make people murder themself and all that shit, and get it banned from half of the world
Really liked the first and second carmageddons, back when Stainless was still making them.

I really hope Stainless is doing this one too, but seriously doubt it.

If Atari go anywhere near it then it will suck balls.
Got to give them a chance at least?

Quote :Press Release

1st June, 2011. Isle of Wight, UK.
The Carmageddon brand has been reacquired by the team that developed the original PC titles Carmageddon and Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now. Stainless Games today announced that a new title is in early development, called ‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’.
"Carmageddon has returned to its Indie developer roots, and the time is right to bring the game to a new audience.” said Patrick Buckland, CEO and Stainless co-founder. “Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we’re excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today’s platforms.”
“Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.” said Neil Barnden, Executive Director and Stainless co-founder, “All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.”
“I was in the war!” Patrick added.
Now in the early stages of pre-production development, Carmageddon: Reincarnation is slated for release in 2012. Stainless Games is actively seeking a partner with whom to move the project on to full production.
Carmageddon: Reincarnation is being developed for digital download, for which Stainless Games have built an enviable worldwide reputation, with numerous cross-platform releases and multiple No.1 titles on XBLA.

The bold parts make me very happy indeed

No terrified publisher telling them what their shareholders don't want them to include.
Rofl at the TDR 2000

And agree with above, please keep the physics! Sure they were not real, but they were not stupid either, I enjoyed them and it felt (most of the times) fun driving the cars and getting better at controlling them
:faint:

But, the TM2 will have damaged skins, meaning there won't be any collisions between the cars, but you can make skins / versions or something of the car in damaged state. Little info is given from Nadeo about this atm.

When that is said, holy ball **** I am looking forward to Carmageddon!
Sorry double post, but have updated main post with further info
As a fan of the franchise I'm really looking forward to this, but tell me, what does Carmageddon have that GTA IV doesn't?
Quote from breadfan :As a fan of the franchise I'm really looking forward to this, but tell me, what does Carmageddon have that GTA IV doesn't?

Blood, gore, silly power ups, cars with spikes and blades on them, cunning stunts, bonuses for artistic impression...it had everything GTA IV doesn't have.
I think the main difference is that GTA tries to focus on the car aspect, but has it main aspect in the various things you can do on foot. Carmageddon is a game that focus entierly on driving the car, not going out of it or trying to hi-jack other cars. Of course we can argue if Carmageddon is about driving or beeing crazy, but I prefer Carmageddon over GTA any day
