For whatever reason it isn't done in the UK much anymore, not sure why because it is a cheap fix, I've got a scw in my RF Proxe, since it is near as makes no difference brand new it is getting plugged (once I've found a garage round here that does it), rather than replaced.
[Edit: My mistake, was thinking about normal plugs which require a tyre dismount to fit. Never seen string plugs before.]
It's a rather large hole (screw / bolt sort of size), and the tyres are coming up to the end of their life anyway. I might as well put the £20 I'd pay for a repair into mounting my new tyres, especially as the tyres on the back are some budget Federals.

Yes, but being a softer compound they'll wear out even quicker (I get through the FK452's in ~10-12k).
Got them fitted to the back atm (simply because I didn't want to mess the tyre fitters around too much after asking them to swap tyres round on the spare etc), although in hindsight this is probably a waste of a good tyre as it doesn't really do anything there (the Federals were fine tbh!)

Tbh I had 9000 miles and about 40% worn on Goodyear Excelence on my old wheels on my golf and that was like with me going round corners way too fast and using all 260 torques to unstick the wheels at every opportunity.

I've always sworn by Marangoni Zeta tyres in the past, my lil '5 used to grip like hell with them on the back, and they were a lot better than the t1r's i had after that when i changed the rims for something a bit different, although the toyos were fairly worn so thats probably why, cant seem to find zeta's anymore though, although almost anything would be better than the eagle NCT 5 monstrosities that i have on the rear at the moment, they are manageable in the dry, but add a bit of the wet stuff, total rubbish.
