Please give reasons why one is better than the other.

Personally I like the Desire more because it is sleeker and you can root it more easily. The Desire S from the other hand is more powerful GPU wise.

I prefer Desire Z because it has qwerty.

Really useful if you text much or you have irc or sumthing in your phone

It's like comparing Logitech Momo and a G27

Definitely the S, since it's the new and improved version. Don't worry about the roots, it's a matter of time.

Its simply that, that Desire hadn't had enough internal memory for me. You will find out the same thing if you buy it.

Not worried about that really, I'll be buying a 16 gig microSDHC anyways. My old iPod had 16 gigs and I always had an extra gig left.

From the 10+ speed test vids I haven't seen any significant(by that I mean 2-3 second delays) differences other than the GPU benchmark test. I'm not a real fan of non-physical buttons either, they tend not to work very well.

about the keyboard... install gingerbread keyboard from android market and select it. I find it being better then HTC or swype keyboard.

I have the Desire HD. Its a great phone. Its bigger, but it doesnt last as long. *da dum tish*

A very user friendly phone, and it has the extra tough gorilla screen.
