An officially sanctioned Formula 1 movie is set to hit the cinema screens early next year after a landmark deal was reached with the sport's commercial chief Bernie Ecclestone...see more
Probably not the same project, but Ron Howard is making a film about 1976 season, centering around Lauda and Hunt, with screenwriter Peter Morgan (e.g. Frost/Nixon). Rumours say relatively unknown Daniel Bruhl is Lauda and Chris Hemsworth is Hunt. Sounds pretty good, actually really good.
ps. Michael Mann is working on a racing movie too. Interesting coincidence, considering that it has been more than 40 years since the last batch of proper racing movies (Grand Prix, Le Mans).
There's supposed to be a Hunt movie as well, isn't there? (In addition to the one about the Lauda/Hunt rivalry)
Also, has anyone heard anything about that 30's grand prix TV series being done by the Wachowski siblings? Heard about it last year and not a thing since.
[EDIT] Maybe not TV series, but short run televised series about the era, and maybe not the Wachowskis...
