4 World Cup Classics
The 2nd one is great, and the last one is kinda odd
My personal favourite is the first one, made me chuckle as it sums him up.

I guess, the game ended 0-0, because the players had to laugh so much, that they werent able to kick the ball.
its just soccer....

but different cultures i guess....
i didn't see any portuguese making fun of zidane just because he put us out of the race too! but man, where ever i go i see some brit calling me names.

the other day some loosers went to midlandf1 forum to put monteiro down (and the portuguese fans) because of ronaldo (in a F1 forum!!!!!!!).......its pure hooliganism, i tell you, i dont feel safe anymore. some ppl kill for less these days.

See that's the cool thing about professional sports in the USA. you can be for the other team as much as you want, hell we'll even get drunk with you...
just don't try and take some one's parking spot at the event though, you could wind up with a new set of orifices doing something that despicable.
spyshagg, it happens all the time, and not only to portuguese people. The whole Italian people have been called "parasitic forms of life" by Achim Achilles in Der Spiegel, along with lots of other commonplaces that sparked major outrage here. Der Spiegel apologised the day after, but Bild made it worse calling us names again. I guess there's a lot of people unable to distinguish between people in the same country, so that the shame of a single person is the shame of everyone. A very shallow view. It's only soccer, you may say, but when somebody talks about "parasitic forms of life" he should mind the consequences and the images he conjures in the minds of his victims. I don't think that a whole people should be ashamed for the deeds of a single or of a few persons, but I will remember insults like that forever.
#9 - Vain
What the Spiegel wrote was outrageous! I simply can't understand such things...

Vain
Yes, it was. But Italy answered with two world cup classics that will be remembered for a long time. Particularly worthy the arab journalist: he seems to praise Allah when Grosso scores, than says in a, a-hem, less then perfect Italian "Forza azzurri la partita deve essere la vostra" that roughly translates to "Come on Azzurri, the match must be yours". Maradona talks about an "unforgettable match". The chinese speaker is clearly rooting for Italy. The German one becomes ice cold in a creepy way. It's a blow in the stomach, he's helpless. When Del Piero scores the second goal he says "wunderbar". He's obviously struggling inside trying to deal with what's happening, he must feel terribly, so he becomes almost ice cold, but at the same time he recognises the aesthetic beauty of the moment. That's real sportsmanship.
Worth noticing also the English one, but overall I'm happy with all those reactions. There's so much affection in some of them that I think there's a poetic justice, at the end, and I'm not referring to the outcome of the game, but just to the affectionate feelings some reporters all around the world show towards Italy. For the future, who knows, I mean, I already have my reasons to be proud. Just a desire, a single one: whoever wins today has to win in a clean way. Just that, and nothing more. I would be happy all the same.
noice!!!!
I love how Ronaldo dives here. No where he gets touched at his right leg, jumps, goes flying, looks at ref midair and then grabs his right knee (remeber, he got never hit there, besides not getting hit anywhere else) And the he complains to ref. Great actor.... err actress

I Think Ronaldo basically sums up everything that I depsise about modern football. Don't get me wrong, i will watch a good game of football with the most avid supported any day, but I refuse to watch poncy, overpaid, underskilled, boufonted, quifed, crybabies fall over all over the pitch. I wanted Ghana to go through. Watching them play was like watching the beautiful game the way god intended. 10 men moving up and down the pitch playing as a team. It was wonderful to see a well honed team play with skill and intteligence. I really wanted to see that kind of football inthe final. But no, we are given the waste of time that is Champion League Millionaires falling over and complaining about a bruised ego.

I think it's revolting. Ronaldo deserves all the derision he gets as does any other diving, crying wimp. You watch a good Rugby League game. Those guys are crying sweat, blood and tears and they still get up, shake the blood from their eys and go in for another hit.

We paid Sven 5 million quid a year, plus all the rest of it. And we get nothing in return. Same as those supposedly proffesional players. They get paid an absolute fortune and what do we get in return. Stroppy teenagers.

Make the world cup into a non professional game. Or players from bottom leagues. Then we might see some playing. Or some bad manners. I can't imagine a docker from the east end taking that kinda shit from Ronaldo. he would have done the job properly. Given that pretty boy a broken nose for his troubles.

This middle of the road playing for the crowd rubbish has to stop. We, the public have to boycot these big league players and start going to more local clubs. Support your home team.

There is too much money involved in the big names and teams. But they wouldn't have that if they didn't have an audience. Thats us. We ahve the power to change these things. One by one, slowly but surely. Just turn your back and find a brighter light.

You do have the power.

You should consider that the opponent was Germany, though. So maybe all those commentators don't like Italy, but dislike Germany even more
I wouldn't say that, I think there's a big emotional difference between cheering for someone's victory and cheering for someone's defeat, and I cannot perceive any kind of hatred in the voice of, say, the arab speaker. It's just an ecstatic moment.
