Hello drivers and managers,
We realize that the rules for this league can be a bit confusing at first, so we're going to use this thread to address any questions or concerns that you may have, in addition to any other general pre-race discussions. But first, a few quick clarifications so that everyone will understand how this works:
1. Locked-in teams
The top 10 teams in each class in points (here) are "locked in" to Round 2's main race. This means that they do not have to drive in the Qualifying Heat Race in order to participate in the main event.
2. Qualifying Heat Race
Whereas teams qualified for Round 1 via a week-long pre-qualifying session, for Round 2 and subsequent rounds all teams that are not locked in by virtue of their points position will take part in a 30-minute Qualifying Heat Race. Some quick facts about the Qualifying Heat Race format:
- Single driver per team
- Grid set first by points order, then confirmation order
- Standing start
- No safety cars or push cars
- No points awarded
If a team advances from the Qualifying Heat Race to the main event, the driver from the heat race MUST drive in the main race.
Incidents from the Qualifying Heat Race may be protested, but protests will not be reviewed until the main race has finished. If a team in a transfer position causes another team to lose a transfer position through avoidable contact or other penalizable conduct, the offending team may be disqualified from the main event. Please drive with respect in the Qualifying Heat Races.
3. Rules under review
Following Round 1, the admins have identified several areas of the rules that need to be clarified or strengthened. This is not an uncommon occurrence with a new series, and we hope you will be patient with us as we work toward a more logical and easy-to-understand set of rules. In particular, we are evaluating the rules for maximum participation limits (% or time rule per driver) and start and restart procedures.
4. Round 1 wrapup
In general we were very pleased with the quality of racing in Round 1, and we are looking forward to more of the same at Blackwood. We're thrilled to have such a large, enthusiastic field for a fledgling series, and we hope all of you will continue with us through the remainder of the season.
Good luck in practice, and we'll see you on-track on the 20th!
