The online racing simulator
Paintable windows rear side/back?
Hey, I'm submitting some of my accumulative ideas for little perky improvements in game to add some realism.

-Coverable windows
-Mirror Angle
-MP3/WAV Player (rather than unconventional .ogg)

-Window painting.
I had an interesting idea after watching some TV...the idea that you could effectively turn your XF (or any model LFS car for that matter) into a combi van by painting the window. Not fully opaque but around 80% (or maybe variable in setup>colours) with glass where it was left normal perhaps? It could be interesting to see this as we would also be able to tint windows completely, or even just extend a manga decal a bit higher than between the wheel well and the bottom of the window for a true race car look.

It could be interesting to see if we could maybe do the same thing FM4 did for their lights in adding the ability to put designs on them?

-Mirror Angle (From 18WOS pttm)
I also had an idea from 18wos PTTM which was to be able to vary the angle of your wingmirrors maybe using a control hat on a joystick or wheel (but re-programmable obviously)

-MP3/WAV cd player
I think I've hinted at this a few times in that LFS itself has no actual normal music player to speak off (apart from the slightly naff .ogg one) so I propose to scrap that and implement a .mp3/.wav player as it would be much more convenient for the younger generation who have grown up with .mp3 rather than .ogg which is pretty much unheard of. It would be quite cool if we could have (like in TDU1) 5 or so stations within which we could put different bands, styles or albums into with the ability to skip, and maybe one for online radio where we can write in the radio link copied from the site and it plays it for us?

Thanks in advance for taking my ideas into consideration and I hope to hear from you all soon about your feedback

Yours Faithfully,
FakeDeath
I'm not sure if the devs can use the MP3 format in their software without a license or something.
Hmm, I'll do some googling...is it me flame or are you always first comment on my posts :P

You can however, use the music player of your choice and a few global hotkeys that will work from within LFS to change tracks, playlists, volume, etc. I use Foobar
Ah bean0, just the man I wanted...what are your opinions on the glass painting (i.e. on the back side windows/back window)

It could be useful to be able to skin the windows, yes.
I'm thinking more along the lines of somewhere to put race numbers rather than turning the XFG into a van though.
Yeh, but think of it from a cruise server perspective aswell. Add some nametags, a flag and some gumball 3000 logos on the bonnet you're having a helluva time ;D
It definatly could be interesting to be able to skin windows (rear side windows and rear window), but i think that this is one of the bottom priorities. I´d rather have a new update and a couple of new cars (the Scirocco has been on the drawingboard since freakin´2008 !) and even though we know that the boys are working hard on alot of stuff for LFS, we really dont get thrown any new stuff.. Its a shame... Work on the tyre physics is a very bad excuse for not releasing new cars...

So any kind og update, any kind of new cars, or any kind of new options like painting the windows has my undivided support

Yeah window painting would be really cool for some of the CR / CoRe Skins, As those skins are always pretty neatly done, If i could add onto this, I'd say I'd like to visually *see* the window, Instead of it being invisible to you.

Wow, I found someone else who plays 18WoS, Thumbs up.
I'd really want to be able to see my car in my mirrors before I get the mirror adjustment angle, Sure, It'd be cool, But you can barely see the mirrors in GTR class anyway, (I don't think GTR cars allow power side mirrors, I think they would be adjusted by hand..) But in XRTs/ TBo it'd be really nice, Maybe something like Iracing, Where the rear view mirror/side mirror was actually another viewpoint, just angled to look back. I forget exactly what it was all about, But it was pretty CPU heavy when it started emitting exact copys, So don't expect the devs to add anything CPU intensive.

Yeah I don't think I'd like this one to much, Especially due to the fact if you don't have the button on your wheel, you're going to take your attention off the road/car, Which is OK. I can type and drive decently, I just don't know about the other people/mouse drivers, It'd be kinda sucky since if they try to talk it automatically sets their wheel to the center, They should probably fix that. / A solution would be to run winamp, Most keyboards these days have media hotkeys which you can use to control stuff.
Quote from Flame CZE :I'm not sure if the devs can use the MP3 format in their software without a license or something.

MP3 is a part of MPEG-2 standard.
And as far as MPEG-2 LA states:
Quote :No license is conveyed unless applicable royalties are paid. Therefore, only products on which royalties are paid are licensed.

Link to whole license:
http://www.mpegla.com/main/programs/M2/Pages/Agreement.aspx

So yeah, devs would have to pay for the use of MP3.
But I really can't find a use for MP3s in a racing simulator. So it would basically be for cruisers..again. Haven't we have enough "goodies" for the cruisers already?
And besides. OGG and MP3 are pretty much the same when it comes to quality. Very similar formats, and by your statement, that what the younger generation has grown up with. Well, OGG is "younger" than MP3, and no one actually grown up with it. Plus further more, it is an open format, so basically free.
Just grab a converter of google, there's tons of them, and convert your MP3 files.
Yeh but firestorm, I think to be honest no NFS player wants to convert their files but, cheers for the idea.

And cruising makes up probably 3/4 of the top servers so.

My point exactly.
Bring more racing content to bring back more racing servers.
paintable windows... hmmmm. I would say only on certain cars . Like some race cars have liveries on windows IIRC.
skins reaching over window I agree fully with Can be used either for tinting or for decals etc. I also think that this could be extended over the headlights and tail lights so that you could for instance smoke your tail lights (to a certain extent) or put some electric tape over your headlights.

Hmm, either that or waste effort, time and money and a bunch of peeved cruisers...we're doomed.

Both interesting ideas, the light thing could be good too, maybe being able to cover one light up partially or do it in thin lines (to look like cracks)
