Fuel save competition. Who gets furthest?
Hello guys,

Who can be the most economic driver in the LFS? Try to go the furthest on BL gp with XRG with 1% fuel and without mods.

This will be a lot of fun because you can take the look at driving from the other side - physical side. You will need to know the engine, car, terrain and some physical basics to get furthest.

What you have to do:
1. Set practice in single player mode.
2. Chose BL gp and XRG with 1% of fuel in tank.
3. Start from the pitlane (be sure that you have restarted race and you have not seen NOT RECORDING on the right)
4. Drive until you run out of fuel.
5. Stop and take .spr.
6. Upload .spr and post a link in this thread. Say where you stopped in which lap.

Rules:
Its not allowed to use starter as an actuator

Hope everyone will be serious without cheating. It is destroying the fun and with some little effort we can say if it was cheated.

If any questions please ask. Have fun

BTW:
Bavorak got and idea to have some 1% 5 laps races. The winner would be the guy that takes maximum out of the concrete amount of fuel in his tank. You wouldnt know the winner so easy in the race. You can win it also if you are the last because other can run out of fuel. This would need maybe some insim and more time spent on it. Just if someone get interested.

EDIT: Currently paused because of new year and shown problems.
It was (is?) possible to drive the XFG on a straight with just the ignition (quick on/off reps) even with no fuel, wonder if the same is possible with XRG..
Sounds like fun. I'll try it out.

Thats cheating and thats why I want .spr.
That's actually a nice challenge, but I think it needs a more strict set of rules. The easiest way to win this challenge would be to engage the autoclutch and drive in the 5th gear all the time.
Not so sure about that. I think it can be driven the best with H-shifter.
I would like to see some .sprs. I am not so sure how it can be cheated now so the rules are like this. We will see what guys will do

I hope you take it serious and drive it like IRL because you will publish that. Others can whine about your drive.
I was driving around for over 21 minutes until I stalled, while still having about 0.6% of fuel in tank. Turns out it's kinda awkward to steer and operate the throttle and clutch when you have to use a touchpad instead of mouse and you configure you laptop to disable it when keyboard is being used

I'm pretty confident that I could easily get to an hour after a bit of practice and even further with a wheel...

Almost 12 laps..
I hope that isnt cheating if i turned engine off on straight, if it is i make new try later.
First time i turned engine off on 4th lap .

How are you supposed to tell if the car in the replay actually had 1% fuel in it?
Well I think it's mainly about having the engine shut down.
Just an idea, wouldn't it be easier (and more accurate) to let people drive say 5 laps and check their average consumption when they complete them (at the exact moment they cross the finish line)?
After some research I think cars arent consuming any fuel idling. Also the starter doesnt consume any fuel. Not 100% sure but most likely it is.

Engine switching off is ok. Guys IRL do that but because of what I wrote it has most probably no effect in LFS.

I am not sure of any way how I could know the amount of fuel so this is just about that we need to trust each other that he isnt childish.
Only look the way he driven that. It should be seen if someone doesnt deserve that.
It has to be fun at first place.

If you mean that you could see that in F12 its just not enough accurate.

BTW: I have created rules so the starter problem is here. If you get any more idea what can be cheated please say
There are other ways of measuring the fuel consumption, like..... (I honestly hate to do this) this one. The only drawback is that you'd have to watch the whole replay without fastforwarding to get an accurate reading...

Not true. You can actually set it to (almost) any precision you want in the.language text file. Just find the line with the fuel consumption and edit the number in %.1f to whatever you like (1 means one decimal place).
Okey thanks. Didnt know about that but I would like to know how can I see consumption in .spr and it looks like lfs is checking language .txt files and rewriting them at start.
Or I am just tired
Might be better to do it the fuel consumption method (somehow), because based on my current fuel consumption I'm going to be driving for an hour and a half..
Ah lost patience after 4 laps
almost 9 laps and still 0.47% fuel inside, by my driving method is possible 17+ laps
for fuel check use Aonio, work in replays

During my attempt I got to 1.85 l/100 km, I'm pretty certain you could get under 1.00 l/100 km, LFS fuel consumption model is kinda off at low revs...
Don't forget rolling resistance.
If patience is a problem, how about some GT-R class ?
Well you'll still be driving at nearly the same speed.
Quote from JO53PHS :Well you'll still be driving at nearly the same speed.

It's not about speed. The GT-Rs are fuel-hungry.
No demo users would be allowed and driving a gtr fuel save is weird.

I am sorry guys who already uploaded it but I would like to pause it until I find the better way to make it more transparent and time affordable.

MadCatX econometer is a nice feature (found out some nice bugs in lfs fuel count methods with it)

So I will look for a better way.

I tried, but it doesn't work for me.

Every time I edit the file, LFS retrieves the edit like a over-sensitive Wiki patrol bot. Any ideas ?

Edit:
Looks like LFS only cares about the English file. I tried other languages and it was successful.
