couple of noob questions
hi all, started playing LFS today and was so impressed i bought the full version. still getting into it as theres so much to take in but i have a couple of questions:

1)are the servers in game the only 1's you can use or do places like gamespy etc host other 1's??

2)i see in the skin folder theres loads of skins that ive seen on other cars whilst playing. when im in the garage though there only ever seems to be 2 or 3 skins for me to choose from. how do i put on the other 1's??

cheers
Hi and welcome to LFS.

1) Yes, the servers you see in-game are the only servers.
2) You have automatically downloaded other people's skins into the "data\skins_x" folder. To use skins yourself, they need to be in the "data\skins" folder. But you need to be careful when using other people's skins as quite often people have made skins for themselves only and don't want other people using them.
Welcome.

1) Dont really know, what you mean. The servers, you can see within the game, are the servers, you can join. How can there be other servers, that arent shown in the game?

2) The other skins, you see, are custom skins, who were made by other drivers. They get downloaded automatically by LFS, so you can see them. You arent supposed to use them yourself, as they are mostly private or team-skins. Theres one whole section for skins here in the forum, just scroll further down on the main page. There are also some public skins, you can put in your skins folder. If you select to a new skin, you can chose it from a list then.

Hi, congrats on getting S2 and welcome
To answer your questions:

1. Nope, no gamespy here. These are all servers set up by the community, and they connect to the LFS master server to get displayed in your serverlist. So that's basically sort of our gamespy.
2. There are two skin folders, the one called "skins", and the one called "skins_x". Skins_X is where the skins of people you play against are stored so they don't have to be downloaded everytime you connect and meet those same players. The Skins folder is where you put your own skins. You put a skin in that folder and also upload that same skinfile to www.lfsworld.net. Then other people will be able to see your skin (and it ends up in their skins_x folder.
If you want to use some public skins on your own cars, take a look around in the skins section on this forum. There;s lots of them.

See you on track

edit: i'm late again

Check your graphics options
Welcome!!

To be more helpful change the Simple Wheels setting, found under Options > Graphics. Either set it to mirror or off, depending on your system.

nice 1, i didnt even look at what the options were when i first installed i just assumed putting everything to on would be best lol.

started knocking up my own skin in photoshop aswell to keep it individual. only spent 10 mines as im knackered, ill finish it off tomorow:

Looks like a good start.

Tweaking LFS to look good and run well isnt just a case of switching everything on, however. Make sure you read what you're doing and if you need help with an option search or ask on the forums I'm sure theres a tweaking guide somewhere, but I can't remember where its gone...
