LFS cars top speed
Usually when buying or talking about cars main things are power and top speed.
For measuring cars top speed you need like really long track without bends.
Currently in LFS there is not track like this, so I had to use additional content :P

Some of my logic for achieving top speed was like:
  • set tyre pressure to max (to achieve minimum rolling resistance)
  • minimum camber (lowest surface touching ground should also decrease rolling resistance)
  • set toe to 0
  • adjust gearing that maximum speed is achieved on maximum engine power (from hard track setup with changed final drive ratio, gears independently set in turbo cars)
  • hard suspensions with minimum height, but to not touch road
  • locked differential
  • down force to minimum
  • R highest possible number tyres (if car use slick), road cars SUPER tyres if possible

For achieving top speed main factor is gearing, if this is set incorrectly than nothing is good.
Its interesting how turbo cars had problems passing some rpm point in way to top speed, so I had to set lower gear to pass that point.

I tested a bit more with XFG, how does setup affect top speed here are some notes:
  • if tyre pressure set to minimum top speed will be three kmph lower than maximum tyre pressure
  • didn't found any effect of camber settings to top speed
  • didn't found any effect of toe settings to top speed
  • didn't found any effect of suspension settings to top speed, even when comparing maximum ride height and minimum top speed remains the same

Notes for other cars:
  • if car uses slick, R4 is usually faster by 2-3 kmph (FXR)
  • ROAD SUPER vs ROAD NORMAL vs KNOBLLY equal top speed (RB4)
  • HYBRIDS are one kmph slower than ROAD tyres (RB4)
  • Added weight will not decrease top speed, you will only need longer time to achieve it
  • When adding restriction to engine power... (see RB4 power/speed table below)

Speed was measured using Aonio, when speed did not changed for one minute.
Note: On high speeds like 300+ kmph difference between Aonio and cars speedometer is even five kmph !!!

LFS cars top speed:
  • UF1 164
  • XFG 201
  • XRG 215
  • LX4 214
  • LX6 237
  • RB4 252
  • FXO 254
  • XRT 258
  • RAC 257
  • FZ5 294
  • UFR 242
  • XFR 252
  • FXR 292
  • XRR 297
  • FZR 298
  • MRT 177
  • FBM 222
  • FOX 240
  • FO8 303
  • BF1 354
RB4 power/speed table:
  • Power [kW] Top speed[km/h] c
  • 75 187 0,535
  • 95 202 0,537
  • 126 223 0,529
  • 157 241 0,524
  • 179 252 0,521
(how to tabulate this table?)

Resistance factor

P=F*v
F=c*v^2
--------
P=c*v^3
c=P/v^3

by this site FBM can reach 230 kmph, but I could not

I tried hard with BF1 because this speed of 354 seems too low, since it reaches almost 350 on oval, but also could not do any better.

Now you can talk to friends how fast you car is :P
Hope I didn't miss any number
Comments welcome
Wow, big effort you did. This should be stickied. Nice to know.
xfg 201 i cant belive
I guess using wind is cheating, right?

Try again without wind, with different set you might do a new speed wr

BTW nice work Daniel!!!

with right setup, long enough road... everything is possible
Quote from Nadeo4441 :I guess using wind is cheating, right?

Yes, no wind, draft etc., Keep in mind that real speed (measured with Aonio) is always lower then speedometer readout
top speed? 720km/h, close thread.

now seriously, do your screenshots with F9/F10 open, it shows G forces, if you have force forward, it means you are not on top speed, because your car is still pushing forward it need to be 0.00G
Thanks for this Daniel, nice to know this.

Done new WR when set live camber to 0 on all tyres.
355 in Aonio, 359.9 in speedometer (before it was 359.2)

interesting on all other cars top speed remain the same whatever camber I use. Probably changes but still not enough to show in Aonio.

19% fuel? Shouldn't you have almost none left to find top speed? Nice work either way
That's all good and nice to know, but I'm still curious about:

when started with 5% fuel result is absolutely same, pic below:

only when starting with 100%, it stoped moving at 359.8
as I said top speed isn't so much influenced by mass

Exactly my thoughts.

additional content costs, you know

please don't send messages
This thread is awesome! Thanks for the effort...

Looks a bit like standard KY1 textures on that screenshot. But IF u REALLY have additional contents, I offer you 150€ to share them with me.

And about additional contents, I think of a complete new track, where you can actually do races on.
Quote from Specht77 :It's actually even more:

Use Aonio to measure accurate speed.
which setup did you used?
are you sure you did it on absolute straight (no downhill), no wind ?
I managed to do 202(in Aonio), with tyres at 120 celsius degress.
yup I'm sure

dunno how to use aonio

edit: actually it's pretty easy to use :o

there you go:

there you go:

204 in Neutral and 0 rpm (by aonio)?
i have never experienced difference between rpm at dashboard and aonio
