"Everyone else is a moron" is probably true- all the people I know who have written their cars off were in accidents caused by someone else eg a "soccer mom" (I only know the US term... I think our equivalent is Chelsea Tractor mothers) in a people carrier

Yeah, think I'll leave the double clutching to the boy racers...
Best single piece of advice I ever got was this:
Watch the car in front of you at a roundabout or junction and not the approaching traffic, no matter how busy the road is. Never assume another car will take a gap just because you would have.
Quote from Shotglass :nah when done correctly you step on the gas enough to keep the engine running

Possible but is there so idiot people who would drive like that was my first point in this silly discussion. I mean that they would have enoug gas not to stall and not enough clutch to move and then they just would hop forward all the way? I think that takes some skill

yes there is ... ive done it myself and im pretty sure it happens to most everybody at least once in their driving career either at the very beginning or when switching to a car with a weird clutch pedal (like a bmw)
Heh, I've been lucky with clutches so far then, but I have time because Im just a noob

A "Chelsea Tractor" is just another name a 4x4 that gets driven around towns/cities. Like they would ever take their brand new £35,000 car in mud, it'd get dirty.

Truth in that, one of my tutors at college don't follow it and wrote off his car, he drove into the back of a Chelsea Tractor and the tow bar went through his radiator, plus lots of body damage.
