The Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to proceed with a three-day festival that will literally take over downtown Las Vegas in April.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix race will be run over a constructed 2.4 mile course throughout the area. The race means closures and safety measures, but it will also pump thousands of tourists into downtown.

Neighbors in the area met with Grand Prix officials Tuesday where people had some concerns.

With the cars racing, there's going to be a lot of noise, or, as race officials call it "sound".

The streets are going to be shut down and barricades put up. But many are still excited.

The mayor's not worried about the noise.

"Only a sourpuss would get mad if they heard a bit of noise," Oscar Goodman, Las Vegas' mayor, says.
The race is expected to bring in more than $75 million to the area. The city officials are really excited about the exposure downtown will get because the race will be on network TV.

Too bad thats like a 18 hour drive for us Nebraskans
But it will be pretty sweet the day I am old enough to gamble and I take a trip down there
- So, what does this have to do with :lfs:?
Congrats! Everyone would love a hometown GP. I wish Sydney had one
I've aready designed it; over the harbour Bridge around the Opera House etc...
Is this already officially confirmed or just rumour?
I don't think it is confirmed at all.

I've heard it might be a street track in Las Vegas... which would be kind of cool, but you never know

It is all speculation whether it will be IRL, Champ Car, or F1... possibly a pair of those...

Quote :'AS' also reported on Friday that F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone intends to break off negotiations with Indianapolis and instead concentrate on bringing his sport to Las Vegas.

The newspaper said the US grand prix could then be run in conjunction with Champ Car, in order to boost the interest of the public.

But Servia insisted: ''I don't think Bernie would accept that the two championships are mixed together like that.''

Screw Las Vegas and come to Laguna Seca!!! rofl (too small of a track anyways).

The best part is, Bernie's quote about TV ratings:
Quote :"The TV ratings have always been pretty dismal (and all) single-seater racing in America is extremely marginal."

True and all, but all we need to do is get decent coverage and everything would be ok.
ive got a hometown GP, i live in northampton (silverstone)

Better still blow up the coathanger and make em use the tunnel and have boom gates and collect toll each lap hee hee
Also, even if there was a track on the streets of Las Vegas, I can assure you it would be just as shitty as the San Jose GP was. I still think that the Las Vegas news doesn't know jack about what is going on. They said "F1" just like our news channel did about the SJ GP... nobody gets their series right here, especially the news.

The surroundings would be cool, but seriously.... a new proper circuit is much better.
this is confirmed. i just got off the phone with the sports team with the news, they going to hook it up tomorrow for sure when their webmaster gets in there. the promo was about 2 mins long, and they chose an awesome track from what ive driven on regular roads, espically the tunnel. ill update more information on our website as information is made available.
Hehe this is damn good news! Hope to see this track in future racing games and possibly LFS!!
zzzzz

There is going to be a CHAMP CAR race in Las Vegas... season opener in APRIL 2007.

looks like this:

This is true. And nothing is said about F1. This is Champ Car turf.

This is today's news.
Think for a bit what you have done, posting a thread called "NEW! Grand Prix Track announced!" to General LFS section of the forum....... :irked: :gnasher: :slap: :chairs:

Do this crap in the offtopic not here
Thank you

I have moved the thread to off topic, but upon reflection perhaps General Racing talk is a better place for it....

That's the old downtown area. Should be interesting but hard to watch much of the action. But that's common for city road courses.
A GP in Vegas will depend on if Tony George and Bernie can come to terms or not.
They could have put some more 90 degree corners.

Just a couple of weeks ago a reporter asked Bernie about the future of F1 in the US, if it's going to stay in Indy, or if it's switching to Las Vegas. His reply was something along the lines of "I can't give you all the answers, but I can tell you we're definitely not going to Vegas".
A quote from the hkracers page:

"The series has competed in recent years at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway"

They're not talking about F1.

The problem seems to lie in finding a suitable circuit. Indianapolis is an amazing motor racing facility, one of the best on the planet, but as an F1 track it is rather uninspiring. Drivers and teams love to work there, but the racing leaves something to be desired. Other F1 tracks in the US in the past have suffered from poor layouts and rough slippery surfaces on city streets and/or concrete surfaces, and a few more suitable venues have either been outgrown by the speed of the cars or fallen into disuse. I suppose the FIA would be keen to retain a US GP (it has always been a patchy relationship) but it needs to be a damn good event to make it worth the gazillions of dollars to ship the whole circus over there and back again.

Adelaide and Melbourne GPs in Australia are good examples of how to conduct an event that works for everybody, and both of these events had/have room for improvement. In the US, I would like to see a new facility with a more European-style circuit wide enough and tough enough to handle F1 racing. Imagine the veriety such a facility would add to other race series based in the US. There needs to be some new (neutral) event if F1 is to find it's way into the hearts of US race-goers. I also think that the FIA could be a little more accomodating, but after all it is a very expensive and difficult exercise to drag the F1 act around the globe. Watch this space.
i wanna see them clear out all those roads of pedestrians, that will be a sight to see

i mean.. thats the center strip of las vegas its going to be using lol, its gonna take.. forever

Well let's look at it this way: Celine Dion survived Vegas, so F1 would be a bloody cakewalk!
OFF TOPIC move ? that sucks moderator. n eways. in vegas there are really 2 strips, the main strip will not feature the layout, it will be downtown vegas, the older casinos.
Quote from VipeNess :OFF TOPIC move ? that sucks moderator.

It has nothing to do with LFS, has it?
well if they choose to add the track to their game, it would, wouldnt it ? ive got all kinda of technology for hdr scans, track scans, all the cool stuff
Lol, but its not exactly very likely to happen.

It will never happen unless you do all that work yourself and give them all the data. I recall Eric saying something about building tracks, and if he ever has some 'partnership' with making a track, it will not be easy and very time consuming. If you think you can do everything from accurate scans to hundreds and hundreds of reference photos... maybe it is possible. But you are talking about making someone design something accurately that he has never seen before, or will never see probably.
