The online racing simulator
New to racing, wanting to improve.
Hi, my name is Arne and this is my first post here.

I have been drifting in lfs my whole "career" and now im getting bored.
Couple weeks ago i went into the cargame server, and i was having alot of fun. So i started racing, and i must say its alot more exciting then drifting.

My question is, do anyone have some youtube channels with onboards for me to watch? I think ill learn alot by watching the good ones Some IRL onboards filming your wheel work would be awesome.

Im known online for Arne or A.Klingsheim.
You can go to LFSWorld.net and download world record replays for any car and track combo you want. Just keep in mind that it's usually unrealistic to match those times on a race server.
Could you post a replay of an 'average' lap and we'll have a look and tell you where you can improve?
I started from the basics [with the basics I mean with BL1+XRG/XFG]. Did that combo for a week on demo servers and watched the way other individuals drive just to get the idea how I could improve my PBs.

Racing on public servers such as Cargame daily might get on your nerves just because of some certain shamlamdubeli people, who tend to troll or are not that experienced on the track yet.

Also, if you are motivated enough to do longer races, you can always visit weekly events such as Torsdagrace [happens weekly, for more information visit this LINK and that's just my opinion for now. It's pretty much up to you what kind of racing would you like to experience [public / event and so on].
I'd recommend you to join one league where you have a given combo for a week or two to prepare your setup for qualifying and the race. Of course too much of one combo gets boring, so there is always cargame etc. to improve your race craft and have casual fun along the way.

say's who?, they are ppl in cg that on a normal day they can do the wr or even faster that the wr without draft or bumpdraft

CR troy and UM#21 and time to time some alien they do the wr time or are at 0.1 of the wr

It depends which car you're talking about. Slicks in LFS are far more sensitive to setup and subsequent overheating, which makes running hotlap setups on a race server impractical. The road tires are less sensitive, so hotlap setups work in actual racing. They may still suffer from suboptimal wear in longer races, though.

Anyway, I was also referring to any non-aliens like the OP being unable to match the WR.

Also note I did not say it is impossible.
Thanks for the replies guys

But im pretty much starting from scratch here, i have 20k km driven with pretty much all of that being drifting(except some FOX).

I think i would learn alot buy watching others, but doing this online is kinda weird for me, cause of lags and so on.
Im just asking for onboards, with that being guys capturing their driving with a camera.
http://www.lfsworld.net/

1. Click S2 Hotlaps.
2. Click the WR's tab.
3. Click the track environment you want (picture icons at the top).
4. Click the time on the combo you want (track configurations are shown in the column headers, cars are shown in the row headers).
5. Save the .spr to your ...\LFS\data\spr\ directory.
6. Run LFS.exe
7. Click Replays.
8. Click SPR at the bottom.
9. Find the SPR you just downloaded and double-click on it.
- Ask fast racers for their setups. Most of them will share it. With alot of different setups, you can start picking out the ones that suits your driving style and allows you to pace as fast as possible.

- Read up on some racing theory aswell as some mechanical theory. All though some of the literature can be quite difficult to grasp, if you understand some of it, you will soon be alot more analytical to both racing and car setups.
By mechanical theory I mean how different parts on the car works, and how they affect handling. For instance, differential locking and how the different types of differentials works. A good place to start is the advanced setup guide.
You can also google "Vehicle Handling and Performance Analyzer" for software to play around with handling. Even some knowledge about handling can be of great value if you have a setup that you are mostly pleased with, but there are a few things you wish knew how to improve.

- Practice alot. Theoretics alone won't make you fast, there is a physical hand-feet-eye-coordination aspect you also will need to be good at.

PS. Var det deg jeg snakket med her om dagen?

You can click on my videos link in my sig any time.
Thanks alot for your help guys, i appreciate it

PS: Kan ikke huske å snakkt noe spess me deg skagen, men jeg har sett deg online

spdo event database is a great place if you're looking for race replays. You will have to brows it page by page to find the combos your interested in, but it's worth it. I recommend to watch a few from Original LFS League, high quality racing there usually.
Can i ask you, from where i can get setups for GT2/GT3?
Quote from vodomera :Can i ask you, from where i can get setups for GT2/GT3?

Best way would be to get them from other players on online server IMO.

There are a few GT2/GT3 sets on setupgrids also.

There are also some on LFS Forum, but they're harder to find. Here are a few GT3 ones(Note: CTRA's "GT2" class used the 28-32-34 restrictions that are nowadays used for "GT3". So those are effectively GT3 sets, even though the thread refers to them as "GT2")

Also, here's a post by scipy teaching you how to convert GTR setups to GT2.

Well maybe its not much but when i used to start back in 2010 i was watching...:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtVxyldnP1A
^ ^ ^ This ALOT...
It really helped me to learn real proper car limit. I hope it will help you too
And other thing... Try to find a team, you are online alot so i belive you know which ones.
Like LLM or TRR or anything you are able to be. Its better to be in team because you have
setups already made... And maybe learn thing or 2... Aaaand you can do endurance racing
which currently are rate highest in LFS.
Good Luck

*fixed.

Some good teams will take you if you prove that you want to learn. Of course, I'm sure N I K I and Tomhah will be able to teach you a thing or two but the rest of the team is basically a pest. LLM will bring you to races but you will never have the best setup or team mates.

Be a hang around for a 'good' team that is well established within the LFS scene and learn from what you get told, and don't be afraid to ask.

Rule of thumb, never join teams that ask you to join them, unless you're in the top 20 best drivers in LFS..

What? Why? That sounds more like advice for the ultra-competitive than advice for the keen-to-learn, IMHO

Well, unless you show some pace, say like at least 1.5-2sec of the best pace, it's hard to see a reason how could you ever be fast. If you can do that with the help these people have given you and find a bit more even, then we can help you.

Edit: I remember when I was in demo and I was around that much off WR after some good laps on that combo and one of the friends came along and said to watch WR replay and so I did and then went driving and then again I watched it and doing this over and over on that combo back then was the way I learned, soon enough I was under 1sec of wr, then under 0.5sec etc., never took it down though as I got bored and bought S2, though I once had sc2 for wr. xD But you know I was mad, I drove that bl1/xrt for a year and a half, with wheel, then wheel got broken, than mouse, then a wheel again... and then when I got to S2 I was always within 1sec on all combos tbh.
So, the point is, don't try too many combos and have too much fun, be hardcore and hotlap something till death as I did bl1/xrt. Now don't go drive as3, it's too easy track, say take as7 and you will learn there how to drive anything. Just try it for a week, hotlap it and watch wr and see how it goes. I give to you to pick a car. :P

Woah wait a minute! I see nothing wrong in my team mates.

Right. Don't tell me you formed your opinion on us as teammates because of that stupid "bumper cars" thing back in SuperGT.

To the OP: I'd say that making a good impression on public servers such as cargame is definitely helpful in attracting attention from good teams. And even better, if you feel confident and willing to put some hours in for practice, join a league that races a car or combos that you're comfortable/fast with. And I agree with Dennis on this: if you want to join a good team like GenR, spdo, Team Vires or CoRe (to name a few) YOU have to do the asking. You definitely can't wait for the magic PM from a top team, because that won't happen.
