did I miss much?
Back after a bit of a LFS absence, has much happened these past 4 months or so?
Funnyboy

Not much, but Scawen is currently working on an update for the LFS hosts to increase the security and prevent hackers to gain full access of servers (as some get now).
We get new test patch today or tomorow
Quote from The Very End :The host update patch right?

completly new incompatible patch both client and host

Quote from Scawen :Good news, I've found a way to send packets that can crash a host. It looks like it could be the same method used to crash Chriship's host. I haven't been able to find any other ways to do it and this one does the same kind of thing, so I guess that's it.

I've got a few more fixes to do as well as the packet checking to fix this one so I'm going to estimate a few more days before the incompatible patch, maybe Thursday or Friday.

EDIT : This incompatible patch will be a TEST patch. When the official update is released will depend on the results of the testing.

Quote from Scawen :About the incompatible update, the main thing about it is an improved multiplayer system that will make the host more responsive and reliable.

Physics and all replays are still compatible
Game only needs host packets to continue processing
Quicker joining to host - no waiting for other players
No waiting for packets from players with slow connections
Much longer timeouts - lower probability of disconnection

Also fixes for various bugs and security issues that have been reported.

Damn, that actually is pretty good!

For me the longer time before time-out is good! Because every 10 ish minute I get a 10-15 sec drop-out, but which fixes itself. I allways DC at that time, but maybe I can manage to not get a drop out now due to the increased time-out time.

The part about better connecting to an host is great too, aswell as the part about not having an turd on 56k modem to screw up the server with his latency.

what's the point of threads like this? check lfs.net, look around the forum and you know the answer in 5 minutes.

This forum isnt moderated heavily enough.
Well, LFS.NET is not updated with this information, the only way to find it is to browse through a random thread in a random part of the forum, how the hell should random new people find that?

To answer that question - they won't, which is a shame. Every upate is a good update, but the devs should have taken 30 seconds to update their front page with these things too, and not just a random topic.

IMO!
What information?

You are talking about test patches now? Sit back, try to understand what the word test means.

Besides, last thing you want is 200 kids coming back and screaming through the (class)room. They can stay away for a while.
Oh come on lol, don't face**** me all over forum
I get your point tho, but still any updates, tests or not, will be a good things for LFS at the current time, therfor make it more.. uhm public hehe
As people said, a test patch is coming, browse Scawen’s post history to see more
