Sabrekov wins OWRL F1 2012 Series title
Wisniewski wins race, Sabrekov wins championship in South City

Anton Sabrekov has been crowned champion of the OWRL F1 Series 2012 at the penultimate round. Sabrekov got a clear lead after winning two races during the season and with his fourth podium finish of the season at round 7, the Russian driver did more than enough to secure the title.

In the race, no one was a match for Adam Wisniewski. Towards the end of the second lap, Wisniewski got a better drive than pole sitter Gianluca Rotello, moved to the outside and took the lead well before the next corner. A free track was all the Polish driver needed to drive away from the rest of the field, never looking in danger of giving away the lead. Gianluca Rotello remained his nearest rival until shortly after his pitstop, after an unlucky connection issue meant the end of the race for the Playerzone driver.

Behind Wisniewski the fight for second place unfolded in a decisive battle for the championship. Right after the first series of pit stops, points leader Anton Sabrekov came out alongside Stuart Newnham. Minor contact at the exit of the first corner gave Quentin Benoît the chance to overtake them both. Benoît was in the position he wanted to be to take the race for the championship towards the final round. Sabrekov had other plans though and during the second stint he waited for his chance to get him back. He tried his move on lap 41 but a determined Benoît came back. Max Norris, who had closed in to make it a four way battle, got the worst of it and was send into the wall, costing him a lot of time with repairs.

Sabrekov did not had to wait long for his second chance to get by Benoît, using the slipstream to take him on lap 42. Once more this didn't happen without contact and Benoît ended up in a half spin. During the final pitstop, the race went from bad to worse for the Frenchman, getting two stop & go's in a row entering the pits before finally giving in . With that, all Anton Sabrekov had to do was finish the race. It did not matter that Stuart Newnham got by for second place. Sabrekov kept his cool and wrapped up the championship with another solid podium finish.

With the driver championship already sure to go to Russia, the final round at Kyoto Ring GP Long will be the decider for the team championship. Redline Racing has the upper hand over Playerzone A and will look to defend their lead during the final 305 KM of the season.

To take part in the final round, drivers will need to register on www.owrl.de and can then register for the event under 'upcoming events'.
