After 8 years keeping the faith to LFS the "Old Men Racing Team" (OMR) will quit all LFS Racing and we will sail to new horizons. Although we respect scawns decision not to share development with other programmers, we are heavily disappointed that there is nearly no development at all. No new cars, no new tracks, not even the scirocco or the Rockingham-track (that were announced over 4 years ago).
Playing LFS has become boring and OMR will now make a restart with some other product(s).
Thanks to the devs and the community for 8 years of fun, action, close wheel-by-wheel races and all that stuff. Maybe we see again in another sim?
Surely best to wait until RFactor 2 or Assetto Corsa comes out (assuming they're good), as there aren't any other online sims worth bothering with at the moment?
I´m using pCARS at the moment, it´s very promising. Some other teammembers are playing iRacing. I don´t like it very much, because it´s very expensive imho and too much US-focussed regarding cars and tracks.
Why so negative about pCARS? I love it. Physics are making their way as the SETA Tire Model is released too which feels pretty good. Also graphics are best so far. Good luck on iR and pCARS guys Let's see on races there! :P
They are just mad their busted PC's can't handle pCars. I also own it and am much more impressed with it than I am LFS.
LFS was good, but it has become obsolete and out-dated right now. Like he said 4 years since 1 new car and 1 new track were announced and we still don't have those items. If you look at the development track of LFS, something isn't right. They announce a new car and track over 4 years ago, had a solid date for when one of them would be released, then they backtracked completely and decided to work on another aspect of the game after they already made the announcement and date of release.
"We are pleased to announce that we plan to release the new VW Scirocco in Live for Speed during the week ending Friday 19th December 2008."
&
"We plan to fix the bugs and continue developing the Scirocco suspension and electronic control systems, to give you a good patch early in 2009."
"we found that we could not make the LFS model handle as well as the real car. One of the reasons for this was that the LFS tyres had too much grip and this was causing the inside wheels to lose too much load while cornering. But simply reducing the grip would not have been a good approach... the result would have been just the same old LFS but at lower speeds." > Who cares, we are all playing the same OLD lfs right now right, why couldn't we play the same old LFS with a NEW car? DERPPPPPPPP.
I know the devs have learned from this mistake because now we can't get any sort of time frame or date for S3 or any of the above mentioned changes, but they should OWN up to this mistake, and make good with their 4 year old announcements and release some content for their error.
Actually I anticipated on that and if there are no substantial mind changes about the future of LFS then there will also a point in time to say; 'time to move on'...
But pCARS is also not on a level yet to compete with LFS. The multiplayer system is very basic and there is no dedicated (Linux) server environment, not even a good server environment in general. Which in my eyes is an absolute requirement for any form of success for any online playable game/sim.
Besides, LFS still has its excellent InSim system which cannot be found elsewhere.
Although I have to agree thats less vital if LFS doesn't get improved with the release of new content. Tire physics are not even important, if only that would be released I think not many people are getting increased interest in LFS again. The 'market' of sims/race games has substantially changed through the years and I get the idea Scawen is underestimating this fact.
Can you just stop whining about a new car? That doesn't change a f* . Feels exactly the same only the shell is different. Yay, fun! -not-
I said I was impressed, never said it was good. I can be impressed with something but still thinks it's crap. It's called freedom, I don't follow others like a lost puppy dog.
And I never said I knew more than Dennis, but I like how just because you don't know me personally that you think I don't know what I am talking about either.
It's called a difference of opinion and everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Yep! Let´s quit with that, it will lead us nowhere. If someone still likes LFS, then he/she should stay with it. I have made my decision, and so has my Team. Maybe I will do some LFS-races here and there, but our main activities will focus on other (racing)games now.
Good bye OMR! You guys left quiet an impression, especially in the German branch of the community. I wish you guys the best in future.
@ the rest: Do you guys actually think before you post? I mean why do you post, if you don't care about it first of all? If people leave for pCARS because they have more fun with it then with LFS, it is okey. There are other softwares around dealing with racing, which after 8 years could make more fun. What I'm really pissed about is that "If you don't like LFS as much as pCARS/[insert software] then leave LFS"-attitude... these are nationalist paroles. That's not patriotism, thats dumb nationalism. You can have fun with multiple games, you can like one more then the other and still race both...
