The online racing simulator

And Tiny has done it again..................

Whisper: You say your not "A troll in the making" But twice in this thread you have quoted someone then straight away posted after it, Posts can be as long as you like, there's no need to double post. And as Tiny says, a higher post count doesn't give you some sort of power.

5 Posts a day would be cool, some guys post that in minuits, they would get so aggitated at being limited to so little posts, and reading their posts would be satisfying.

This wouldn't happen though, I would like to see all the post counts reset or something though, or even taken away as someone has said before.
If we're getting bored, surely it would be better if we had some servers running more interesting combos? FXR/SO1 and SO1R is a blast, and FXR/KY1 is interesting as well, more fun that BF1 on oval. The fact that it wouldn't use the fastest car in LFS would keep the typical Oval Junkies people out.
I just like to lurk on the forum while doing stuff on my computer. Once in a while I post some comments, some maybe even funny (0,01%) some even less.

Imho, I very much like the idea of the number posts-stat being removed. After all it servers no purpose. Join date isn't any better, but I see no reason to remove it.

What I don't like is the sometimes very rude behaviour (specially towards drifters, oval racers and demo racers) by some of the forum goers. Some people just don't know what's a troll post and don't recognize them while posting 5 per day of those. (read above)

But I think it's fine how it is
i got s2 now thanks to tristancliffe
:lovies3d: [etals:] :grouphug: see good things are starting to happen already. Congrats and welcome to S2, faster111.

thanks all i need now is to fix what ever cuases lfs to have green white and blue dots and locks up my whole pc.
I think that a forum post limit would not be good for the community. I dont see any other forums around capping the number of posts and i think this would be counter productive. People would just go to different forums to post and this forum would die, even though that might clean it up! 5 post would not let you participate in any resonable discussions.

i just think forum post count needs to get removed asap. Like rsc, didnt that forum have a post count which now got removed? or maybe i just havent figured out how to turn in on yet

JJ72 and tinyk,

If it means so much to them, and if it stops some of silly shit that we've seen this week, deleting the post counts would be worth it I reckon.

But maybe it would be better if they read a thread like this and realized that you, yes, YOU (not you), you're just spamming rubbish, you're helping no one and generally being a pain. Please, stop
just a quick question. if someone had an idea, and i agreed or disagreed with it, would putting +1 or -1 after it be considered a "meaningless post".
No, sir
I would say it was, if all you put was +1 or -1 without saying anything then it's meaningless.

But explaining why you agree with them would give it a meaning, so if you can't explain it don't post it. The post above is the same, gives an answer without a reason.

The +1 means that you think the original author is correct. And if that one already explained it, why would you explain the same thing again, if you totally agree? That just takes up more space for no reason.

I think the +1 isn't useless, because of the reason above, so I gave a short and clear answer to it. But because you asked me to explain, here it is.
But if you only put +1 then it's pretty pointless without elaborating why you agree with him, you don't have to explain what he has obviously.

IMO all 1 worded posts shouldn't count. They are pointless as even if you agree with someone your not telling us why.
I edited my last post especially for you so it wouldn't be useless

I just don't think you have to post more than "yes", "no", "+1" if you agree with something, there really is no point in repeating the same thing every time. Except when you say "-1", then I think you need to explain why.

But this will probably go nowhere, so I'll just rest my case

I would suggest getting rid of the post count, although i cant believe people would be so childish and post(spam) to bring their count up. very silly indeed (only time for spamming is prepatch hype)

The 5 posts per day suggestion is resonable although you couldnt engage in any discussions then. Maybe what would be better though maybe a bit impractical is when you post for a new thread is typed, it would auto search the forum and warn you maybe that a post/thread of similar nature has already been posted, are you sure you want to make a new thread?

I see that being brought up over and over, so I feel I must address that. I used to post on a forum that had spammer and OT poster "problem". And so they though "Ooooh, let's get rid of post counts, and that will solve it". And so they did. And you know what changed? Absolutely nothing. People still spammed and posted OT crap just as much, if not more.

In regards to the post per day limit. That's not a good idea either. If you do that, then you're making the bulk of the community suffer because of a few bad apples. If you do that, then the spammers have won. Best way to deal with spam is to ignore it.

First of all you're confusing spam with trolling. Trolling has nothing to do with double posting. Second, if you're accusing me of spamming, maybe you should check yourself. I've been here since 2003, and I have less than 100 posts.

I simply find it easier to address different people in different posts. It's not like I'm posting a bunch of +1s just for spam. My posts have content.

Please tell me who am I harming in making two posts in a row? Am I crashing the server with my extra posts? Perhaps I'm clogging your Internet tubes? Do tell.

...

BTW, I see this thread as kind of Off-Topic. It's not discussing the actual game, more like general forum behavior, so shouldn't it be moved to the Off-Topic forum?
You're not clogging my internet tube, but your double posting is certainly clogging this thread.

Actually, it annoys me.
What is double posting?
Quote :what is double posting

Oh, nevermind, I get it now. Wow, I'm almost up to 200 posts, is there some type of reward for this?

Getting back on topic, what's up with the community is that we probably are bored. I look at Team Redline forums and a lot of them are bored waiting for the next new sim or add-on. A good McLaren F1 add-on was made for rFactor, they did a series of races, and now it's back to "what's next?". I think the newness of racing and simulation games (GPL was released back in 1998) has worn off, and "the thrill is gone".
One big problem is that most interesting stuff has already been discussed in the years the LFS community has had a forum. Improvements / features to LFS come small and slow (usually) so that can't ever be the majority of the discussion on the forum.

Better to have an active, messy community, than no community at all.

I agree with Bob on this.

I would say the majority of established members are basically waiting in the back ground for something to happen to bring them back into it more. In the mean time new members are becoming more and more apparent, this isn't a bad thing it's just that most of what they say has usually been discussed before and so the commuity is kind of bored with it.

I find myself posting more in the off-topic and racing sections as these currently hold more interesting threads and im pretty much done discussing LFS in the main sections.

It's a tough decision on how to handle the post count. Removing it can actually remove part of the life of the forum. Even though there are flaming, ranting, whining or whatever kind of posts you want to call them, they do keep the forum active. If you want it decreased, first try being one of the ones not doing it.

I personally think the mods are doing a great job. At the rate forum posts are being made, how can anyone seriously expect them to stay 100% on top of every thread? I commend them on their restraint in performing their duties. Knowing when to step in to handle things can be tough. Too soon, they get flamed for being too strict, not soon enough they get flamed for not doing their jobs. Be thankful you have them as mods and not me.

It kind of baffles me why sometimes people find it hard to just be nice. Personally, I think the LFS community as a whole is awesome. All the good stuff can get lost under a couple of wreckless posts or threads though. It's like reading a newspaper, a huge messy crash will tend to draw more attention from readers than an act of kindness by some local person. Doesn't seem fair, but 'drama' gets more readers. Be brave, look away and focus on the positive stuff.

This pretty much sums it up as far as i'm concerned.

One thing that would make these forums more pleasant is if people
would actually practice what they preach. Let he who has never
sinned throw the first rock. Moderators aren't perfect and neither are
the rest of the people here. Let's just all try to do our best to make this
an INFORMATIVE forum instead of some sort of hangout where pointless
threads drown out actual usefull information. This isn't a blog.

amen sister!

But yeah, it's kind of hard to break out of that habit. My head is going nuts with philosophical questions like "why are people constructive and destructive at the same time?" And "Why does this situation make me think of the old roman empire, where people had to be kept busy or else they started complaing?" (ok I admit i was thinking about Gladiators )
Is the internet civilisation loads behind the 'real world' civilisation?
