The trouble with GT3 & GT4 is they are pokemon type car collection games first and race games second so everything is geared around the "gota get em all" car collection and tune part of the game.
S1 with a handful of cars held me far longer than any GT game with its hundreds of cars all feeling like an arcade game.
LFS is a SIM not a game, its a different market. This is why it does not need all the GT or Toca style jack of all trades and master of none situation.
As I've mentioned before, what will other racing sims be like by the time S3 is released? Looks like Simbin is continuing to improve the ISI physics engine. The only complaint about the GTR2 demo seems to be that Simbin enables traction control and abs if for the two cars in the demo (both demo cars are 2004 GT1 class which had TC and ABS, 2005 is just TC) regardless of game settings. I don't know if the official release will force TC on for all GT1 class cars (there's no TC for GT2 and GT3 classes). Personally I think simulation of a real racing car should include all the aspects of that car, including driver aids.
It's also my opinion that at the sims improve, the feel of the games differs less and less because the games get more accurate. Will rFactor 2 feel much different than GTR2?
One thing most of the other sims have going for them is the ability to add on tracks and cars, and there's enough forum feedback to determine which ones are worth importing into a game.
I've seen a couple of Forza videos and they looked pretty good. Don't know about the physics though. This could be the second game after Halo 2 that I'd like to see released for the PC.
I personally can't really say because I haven't gotten my hands on it yet. Spotted it in an auction and hopefully I'm getting it in a week. From what I've read, Enthusia supports manual clutch when you connect two wheels to PS2.. managed to get my spare DFP working again, those pedals should make a fine clutch.
on another car forum im on GTR was brought up, and someone started saying GT4 was better, and a member got a great post, saying that GT4 is "car porn", its more about "Your driving a skyline" rather than "this is what a skyline feels like to drive", whereas GTR is a more realistic way of looking at things, and its hardness belies its realism
But please, we know tristans gonna jump in with "GTR is a huge physics flop", but its the idea of the post thats good, replace "GTR" with "LFS" and you get the sentiment im aiming for
Regardless off the fact that it's just not a terribly good driving simulation, GT4 (and GT3) is still a hella fun Racing-game, and very complete. I don't see any reason to say thay the large amount of tracks & cars is bad and pokemon-like, it just makes for a more complete and long-lasting game. It's well worth its money if you just want to race and don't care about realism a whole lot.
GT3/4 is still the best racing game in terms of balance between realism and arcade imo, although LFS is obviously a much better simulation (who could argue against that?)
Edit: But yeah... Sony doesn't really deserve to use the line: "The Real Driving Simulation" anymore these days
yeah maybe that was the goal but i think with the 4th part of this series they missed that somehow. to the pokemon thing i would like to say that its a question on how youre playing it. i mean the way you discover the game and want to reach certain stages. myself is taking time for this and i think i will never finish it at all because the cars i allready have and the tracks i have unlocked is/are good enough to have fun for quite a while. (reached 39% or so) but anyway lets not stick to the game itself and make a GT vs whatever disscusion out of it
Another cool aspect of GT4 is playing with your buddies, rather than just pick up eveyr damn car in single player. Although that could be said about LFS too...
Anyway. If we had a game with the cars and tracks of GT3 and GT4 with the physics of LFS... *dies*
I hope LFS will never be played by so much idiots like GTR or any Arcade-Racing.
As long as LFS don´t got the nice features like cool cars, cool tracks, cool tuning, and those stuff, LFS will stay a game for Sim-Racers.
And SimRacers take it serious, and have a better attitude than Arcade-Racers.
Take a look at GTR, i played it before LFS.
All that Idiotes in that game, destroyed the fun in it, for me.
In LFS i don´t get wrecked in T1.
The Community in GTR sucks, it´s full of idiotes.
I don´t wanna that guys here, so please keep LFS clean of "cool Stuff" and keep working on phisics, the LFS-Community is great.
We have a TMN-Team too, and there we have to ban ppl from our server several times each day.
In LFS i only needed to ban 2 ppl the whole year.
Hmm thats kind of a strange attitude somehow because as far as i can remember idiots dont care in what game they can fool around. It makes no difference at all what game you play theres allways at least one idiot in a specified time chapter (1 hour, 1 day, 1 week) so theres no point at all. If you have not been wrecked in T1 you probable be one of the less. The Community of GTR maybe sucks because there the Developers dont care that much about that fact/problem. They want to make money imho, nothing else counts. And its totally nonesense to straiten things like high Quality Tracks and Cars (or other features) or the number of that to a specified point and then say: so far and its getting a game for a specified group of people. I dont want to count how many idiots have got a S2 license and thats not the goal of this thread at all. So at the end from my point of view this kind of comparsion is not what i want to see here or its not what im going for and it kind of pushes this thread into the wrong direction.
Most of the GT4/Forza fans who first really think they're playing the best and most realistic simulator in the world, will give up after some frustrating discussion and call their favourite sim as "a console sim". So they actually do realise it's not as good as real PC sims but they still definately want to use a word "sim". It's somehow funny. And what comes to GT4 and lack of damage, it's funny that the fans first say that "GT4 is a driving sim, it doesn't need damage".
Pretty impressive... but that video shows very little about the game after all. Might be just very well made video for marketing because it doesn't look that good in the actual in game vids: http://media.ps2.ign.com/media/680/680537/vids_1.html
I'm sure Forza II will be the same semi-sim crap as the first one. Xbox 360 probably has whole lotta more power in theory that it could have a real sim with very good physics, but it's just not going to happen because of the simple fact that console players, console and a simulation doesn't fit to the same sentence. So they'll just continue this console fake-sim concept and call it the most realistic sim ever.
Though Forza II will probably have "a new weapon" because Microsoft is lauching a wheel for X360 with Forza II. The wheel is supposed to be cordless force feedback wheel (yes, real FF not just vibrations at least so they say), haven't seen any pics but I'd guess it's just a casual so called toy wheel.
Don't judge a game by how it looks. Several people say Enthusia feels a lot like LFS physics wise. There's a few drivetrain comparisons in streetfire made by Enthu fans, just search for Enthusia and you should find them. I like it how they also simulated an automatic gearbox, so it's not just an automated manual. It shifts like a real car automatic box and kickdown works like in real life. Not that automatic gearbox is really useful for racing, but it's nice to know Konami try to make those things right that other developers won't.
i think the cars in enthusia indeed feel more real than the ones in gt4. but the game mode and doing the setups in that game is just terrible. some great tracks but also some really weird ones (arcadish).
gt4, many many beautiful cars (definately enough great cars besides the skylines) + VERY beautiful, fun tracks. i think the physics are, for a console game, quiet decent + lots of fun. it's a great game.
p.s.:
i have no dfp so i couldn't play the game with a real wheel. just with a RC-Car -style controller.
