More realistic suggestion
Hi,i have an idea....to the next patch....More realistic gauges....i think...do temperature meter (engine) and the engine can blown off,oil lamp, yellow motor lamp, light lamps =D ,and the arrows to index <- -> is a little work to the developers i think ...oh a nother handbrake sign (!)

A nother....a little harder work.....the damage.....i think the car goes to 160kmh and crash the wall....not crashd only the front bumper ^^....and i think crashd the front bumper if that high the bumper takem off from the car.....(and not disapeer likes GTA) !!!!!!

A nother to realistic.....when come pit out.....the engine go to off!!!!! not automatic on!!!!I think we do the start...not the LFS...

Thank you!

oh...really...you, my sir...are...a genious..we never thought those.
All that has allready been suggested multiple times.

It's a veritable troll convention! :sleep1:
And . . and . . and . . . maybe you could have the hand of god come down and strike retribution and holy wrath upon wreckers and trolls.

Thats realistic isn't it?
Quote from Mario Toyota Racing :yes it is great idea also smoke coming from exaust, and when engine boils it makes smoke

How many times do you actually see smoke coming from the exhausts of racing cars, actually even road cars for that matter...

Why are people obssessed with improvement suggestions that involve damage ... personally I'm not aiming to hit the wall at 160km/h. Sure it could be and will be improved in the future but to me it's nothing major ...
I thought I was the only person who thought like that

Yes, accurate damage modelling is pretty, but I'd much rather have the realistic handling and fun driving experience.

Although the one thing I have to say in favour of more damage is it might stop people wading into T1 at full speed

That depends... If you believe that "God" is in fact a race of aliens by the name Anunnaki, and they come down in spaceships (chariots of fire, would be one description), and start shooting wreckers and trolls with laserguns, then yes... That would be realistic. I think. Maybe.
I can't wait for skidmarks to be added to LFS...

Am I the only one that remembers that joke?
I must say I must be a hacker becuase I have skidmarks
And ... I must .... also .... say Why .... on earth ..... do you have to ..... get all your ..... demo ...... mates .... to agree ... with ... your ideas...... and keep ..... putting ..... loads .... of dots ..... between ..... what .... you ..... say?

tut tut

oh yeh and when an engine "boils" (overheats numpty) notice the smoke coming from the radiator, and block .... not the exhaust, all that does is carry gases from combustion out the car... and smoke from exhaust is generally when it is cold outside, and its like breathing out on a cold day .... our car doesnt go smoking down the M40 making the fog ...

I get it Maybe I am just long enough around here...
if an engine starts over heating it could start burning oil which would cause smoke to come out exhaust.
Although your point is correct, oil can burn anyway and result in theblue smoke as a result of a cruddy engine, but a while back my dad had a Ford Escort ( illepall) and that had a bit of blue smoke on acceleration, but it didnt overheat .... just burns oil... like ..... the buring fire .... on which I will ..... place .... myself .... on hvaing to ..... keep explaining .... myself ..... argh!

i dont get it

although i do remember the oval racer asking for drafting
Well we havent allways had skidmarks doh...and Im affraid I can remember some joking about skidmarks and LFS. A thread named "Show us your skidmarks" (or something) after they were added, it just asked for trouble

when the car overheats it usually brings series of issues.

Melt head gasket(collant in cylinders)black smoke i think, never saw it happen in person
Detonation(damaged piston rings)Starts burning oil blue smoke

Am just saying that its highly likely something will come out the exhaust if your car is over heating, especially in a racing environment
Lala, I thought you said you knew about engines, yet now you claim a) never to have seen a head gasket failure, and b) that burning oil produces black smoke? I think you'll find head gasket failures are surprisingly common - work with cars for a month and you'll see one. Also, oil burning produces blue smoke.

Detonation isn't damage to the piston rings due to overheating either.

However, it is more likely that the car will smoke if it seriously overheats. A warped head leading to failed head gasket could result in water andor oil entering the combustion chamber and being burnt = smoke (of various colours and humidities). But a glazed bore or worn valve guides could also allow oil into the engine. In short, you're engine basically needs to be scrap for overheating to cause 'smoke' from the exhaust.
I had a head gasket go on my Ford Fiesta once. Lot's of oil, water, a bit of petrol and some blue air from the language I was using but most of it was situated in the engine bay. Mind you, when it went I was generally too busy looking out the front and wondering what the **** had just happened than looking out the back wondering why I couldn't see any smoke.

What would be sweet is wastegate burnoff. That's not an official suggestion because I know it's been said many times already. But it would still be sweet.

And anyway, smoke is pretty cosmetic atm and so is an extensive damage system. Get the racing dynamics right and then I'm sure lord scawen will turn his attention to a ground breaking, comprehensive, innovative and godlike damage incorporation method.

I for one am not worried.

I have seen head gasket failures, not one where a mass amount of collant got into the cylinder at one time.
I don't think i said burning oil produces black smoke.
let me elaborate on what i mean by detonation. I meant that if a car was overheating it could start to detonate which could cause piston ring failure. which in turn could cause oil to burn which could then cause blue smoke
Detonate where? The gear box? Rear axle? Up stroke? Down stroke? (I could really take this somewhere I shouldn't. But I'll only get myself into trouble again and the thread locked. So I won't. Not this time anyway.)

Are you talking about retardation or progression? Do you actually know what you are talking about at all? Do I know what I'm talking about?

To be honest with yer alot of race cars rely just as much on air cooling as they do a radiator (Extra wieght) and for a racing car to actually overheat whilst racing is fairly unusual unless the car has already suffered damge from an impact or somesuch meaning that any coolant/air movement is blocked and/or leaked away.

I mean if you are thinking about a F1 car lets go and the amount of smoke you get coming of that is not what you get from your average run of the mill racer. The metal used in an F1 car is so thin that half the time is probs a piston coming through the block or some such mechanical catastophy rather than an engine having overheated itself to death. When an F1 car decides to eat it's own engine everything gets thrown onto the very hot engine block, hence the copious amounts of smoke.

But then this wasn't your original suggestion so I don't now why I'm telling you this.

i'm probable wrong anyway. Anyone got any cheese? Wensledale would be nice.
detonation as pinging as in when the mixtures ignites without the help of the spark plug so to speak.

yea your right with race cars overheating, You would have to be a idiot to watch your water temperature get too such high temperatures before you did anything.
I only joined in because someone said when you car overheats nothing comes out the exhaust which isnt entirely true.
weel techically it is true. Overheating itself does not cause excessive smoke.

Head gasket going would possible.

Piston ring going would possible.

Cracking yer block would generate some, possible.

Engine falling out could produce something dramatic, wreckage probable.

But overheating itself. It's a cause not a result. . . . that makes no sense. I'll try again.

But overheating itself. It's a . . . . . thing. that happens. Then other stuff happens afterwards. Kinda.

Damn.
Quote from lalathegreat :I only joined in because someone said when you car overheats nothing comes out the exhaust which isnt entirely true.

Well, it is pretty much true. It's not like your engine overheats, and then all of a sudden, your head gaskets explode half a second later...
