Faultless drive from Button. Throw in a little luck and he gets a well deserved win. Well done to Honda too, who've had a difficult few races recently. An F1 driver is often at the mercy of the machinery, but Button certainly had the Honda where it needed to be when others faltered. He had the pace, passed people and overcame an engine change grid penalty. Well done Jenson

Alonso drove an aggresive but controlled race through the field to take a commanding lead. His lead looked safe even after the SC wiped out much of his advantage and he was looking well placed to take the maximum points before his problem. Schumacher drove through some serious tyre issues, but to come away with more points than Alonso would have been a bit jammy. Maybe his retirement was self induced (Speed TV missed the Heidfeld-Schumacher incident) but it certainly seemed 'right' that the points difference between MS and FA wastn't closed further, especially after Alonso's strong drive.

De la Rosa deserved a podium, was right on Kimi's tail when the Finn was caught out by Liuzzi, and passed the troubled Schumacher. Heidfeld also drove a solid race, typically under the radar for most of the race. Kubica, his much talked about teammate had a much messier race, and seemed to get a little more praise than was due. I could understand the coverage if he'd blown Nick away, but Nick had the upper hand throughout.illepall

Overall the rain (and not to forget the FIA) spiced up the Hungarian GP and it was the best race for quite a while. If the FIA can organise rain a few more times this year, I for one will be happy
sorry for the title i didnt realise... thanks for the replies... sorry Mods

That was a lovely race. I'm particularly happy for de la Rosa. I think he did well, and because of his personality he's just one of those guys I like to see do well.
Kubica had a bit of a messy race, but then again lots of people had one. And to score some points in your first race under these conditions is just a great result I think.
Too bad MS didn't finish. I'm not a fan, but it would have a great effect on the championship.

Uhhh, I think he did very well for his debute. A first race in F1 can't be easy, and the circumstances sure as hell weren't helping.
Re Schumachers tyres: If the tyres weear to slicks and the driver is deemed to have advantage from doing so they are penalised, Schumacher had stayed on those tyres the whole race - so whilst for a while he did get an advantage bye the end his so called "slicks" where no more grippy than a 30 year old oily carpet in a mechanics bay.

I think Schumachers antics sucked a bit tbh, i'm kinda glad he payed the price. The tely footage wasn't clear but it looked like a moment of oversteer as he came on the power - which is a pressure-mistake if ever I saw one, and quite frankly a deserved one.

Quote :This should keep honda in F1 for another year at least.

Honda have been in and around F1 for decades, I dont think they need a win to keep them motivated. In recent times we're not used to seeing Honda as a marque in their own right so we could be forgiven for forgetting this, but they've been in F1 for a very long time indeed and do have pedigree. If F1 commitment is rewarded then it's no suprise Honda have taken a win long before Toyota are looking likely, I think it's Toyota we're more likely to see slide away into obscurity.

As for Button, it was a deserved win. I thought Kimi deserved it too - it was very unfortunate. I remember Monotoya having a similar thing a few races back and everyone here slagging him off - so I was kinda looking forward to the thread about it - but I guess Jenson has stolen the limelight.

113 races in a competetive (top 6-8) car and his first win That guy sure has talent.
Ithought there was a bit of rumouring that Honda might have bowed out next year if the car didn't pick up it's performance. But that might have just been the voices in my head.
Montoya didn't make one mistake, he made many mistakes in perfectly fine conditions, conditions today were far from perfect. Kimi told in a interview he was about to let Pedro pass him because the tire set he had was a bad and was looking at the mirrors when Liuzzi lifted and couln't dodge when he saw that, he didn't blame anyone from it when asked or take the blame but Liuzzi wen't to apologise his mistake to McLaren during the race, so he admitted it was his fault. Might be totall bullshit but thats F1. But saying he deserved that accident which wasn't totally his fault is just???? Montoya was slagged off mostly because he was slow, behaved like an idiot, said things like he is faster and such when clearly he wasn't and did very rookie mistakes multiple times. So why Kimi should be slagged off because some people somewhere said something about Montoya? And Button, maybe deserved, bit lucky but that's needed sometimes. If he could do that couple more times maybe you could stop slagging him off and being that jeleous. He was better today than in Hockenheim, but the race was very much out of ordinary...so I doubt it actually happens, buahhaha
Alls I can say: GREATEST RACE OF THE PAST 7 YEARS OR SO!!

Way to go Button ... woohoo for HONDA!!!

But Mainly: MY BOY KUBICAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! First Polish driver, first polish winner, first polish Champion...just wait!!! My family are SOO pleased!! Hopefully I will be the SECOND Polish GP driver
I watched it and it was a great race. Seeing Button winning made me laugh after what was said by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

Please dont put words in my mouth, I did not and have not slagged off Kimi, I actually said he deserved the win and it was unfortunate.

*boggle*

I appreciate you dont like me not putting Kimi on a pedastal Blackout, but your constant harranging every time I post in a thread Kimi is mentioned is a bit bewildering and frustrating. I dont hate the guy at all, i'm sorry I dont wave a Finnish flag around and say he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but i'm not dissing him.
The lady doth protest to much. I think you secretly Loooovvvvveeeee him Becky.

You Luuurrrrrvvvveeee Kimi.

*Slap*

Man. I don't know whats got into me today. I got verbal dioreheaeaea. Diohaerra. Die . . . . That stuff that happens when you can't stop shi . . . going to the number two's.
Ok, missreaded and understanding your sentance then. I thought you meant he deserved what happened and thought the rest of the sentence was sarcasm. This impression came when I read your post the second time the end of the post in my mind, which said he would need some slagging off around here. But just why do you think I thought like that, because your previous absurd views how he is a bad driver, thats why. Im just stating my opinnion about your opinnions, which I think have been silly, I have perfect right to it, it's a base of discussion. Shall not take this anyway personally. Like some wise man said, arguments fight not the people....or something like that.

To Mr Funny. You should drop those mushrooms from your diet, they cause the hallusinations, the green little men and the diehe..deihar..die har, you know
The last two threads that mentioned Kimi you have made the same assumption! He isn't a bad driver at all in my view, he's very quick and deserves better luck than he's had. My only gripe with Kimi is sometimes when a race turns against him his head isn't in the right place and he overdrives - that's the only negative thing i've ever said about him - and I think it's a fair point. Aside from that he's bleedin' marvellous.
Yep. Love. Def-i-nat-a-lee. Love. I got a nose for these things.
Your posts in the last half hour have taken a definate surreal twist Funnybear! You should get online and race until it's out of your system, maybe even check out the LFS Companion update *ducks*
Companion? LFS dating?

Wicked!

Where do I sign up?

(I'm at work and I'm bored. Can't go racing, not even at home. Not got a rig and can't afford one any time soon. This is the closest I can get to the track. I love you guys . . . . )

gah! now i know what you mean about James Allen - he makes a big thing about picking tyres and how that helped, when everyone but one chose Intermediates!

it wasnt a proper win for Button (last 10 laps were just cruising), and the best drivers all suffered incidents, but even without that he still would of got a good place
Quote from Jertje :Uhhh, I think he did very well for his debute. A first race in F1 can't be easy, and the circumstances sure as hell weren't helping.

I think he did OK, but (here on Speed Channel) the constant praise just seemed a little out of proportion, especially considering where his teammate was putting the BMW.

What I was more impressed by was Kubica's amazingly (for an F1 driver) honest self appraisal after the race: "The result is good, but my driving today was not. I made too many mistakes"

That sort of approach is probably going to impress BMW after listening to JV blame everything but himself

Looking beyond the bizarre penalties for Schumacher and Alonso (for which Button's 10 place grid penalty was comparable anyway), Button seemed to have the pace to beat all but Alonso, and even that was looking interesting after the SC.

Kimi had some good pace early (but not startling considering all his principle rivals were making their way through the field) but seemed to drop way off the pace after his first stop.

Button's was as 'proper' as a win in a dominant car.

Quote from Rob76 :Button's was as 'proper' as a win in a dominant car.

what i mean was that he didnt actually get to overtake alonso and "take" the lead, he got it through i pitstop, but im not denying he had the raw pace and the car to make him the quickest

Just a shame it wasnt done at silverstone (or his "new home" Monaco...)
Great result for Jenson, and Honda, Shumie got what he deservered, and hopefully he will retire all the way soon..Kimi is a great driver, but i can't support him till he learns to speak, i call him 'Mumbles' Mika was like this too, is it a Finnish thing?
This just shows who has the real driving talent, wet races bring out the best drivers. Its Buttons super smooth driving style that won this race for him, and come 2008 when theres no traction control, no super sticky tires and no fancy ECU's...he will come strong.

Kimi was unlucky, he is a fantastic talent...but lacks any personality...he is a computer with a body and no soul. You just type in 'win race' and he does it.

Oh and it was obvious Alonso did that to schumacher on purpose, but its the cars behind that must keep the pace of the leader and someone of schumachers experience should of reacted to it faster.

Button deserved this, from 14th on the grid to win...amazing...reminded me of the type of wet races Schumacher used to win so often.
What you mean with no super sticky tires? The proper slicks without grooves are coming back then, shouln't more rubber be more grip?

And the english of Finns, it's a joke here too Well, might be because our language is very monotonius, and pronounciation is very dull and everything is pronounced like written. Unlike in other languages where nothing looks like it should and there are stresses everywhere. Soo I suppose thats why racing drivers who have better things to do than shool aren't so good at it, they know how to speak it (unlike some MotoGP champions :P) but don't just focus much in to it and how it sounds.

I still want a hear some samples from your hated commentator
Just heard from the news that Kubica was disqualified and that means Schumi gets a point. Too bad for him
