I've just got DK1, installed all the necessary software and I know it works because the demos like the Helix rollercoaster work, along with the head tracking movement. I have downloaded and installed the Live for Speed patch version 0.6G but when I try to select the Oculus in the options/view/3d menu the game says 'could not initialize oculus rift'
Can someone please help, thanks.

What was the exact message? There are 3 possibilities:

"Could not open Oculus Rift"
"Could not initialise Oculus Rift library"
"Could not initialise Oculus Rift headset"
