Round 5 official results

It was a simple and very effective plan for A.Laipnieks - he already scored bonus point for best time in qualifying,he was the leader in the race and set the fastest lap of the race, while closest championship rival got involved in 1st lap incident and dropped to rear. But M.Linde fought his way back up in race order and A.Laipnieks himself lost pace and after intensive passing opportunity search,M.Velikov found a way to pass race leader in lap 16 of 21,never gave up his position and took the victory of Westhill Grand Prix. A.Laipnieks had to settle for 2nd place finish, still bringing home a bunch of points, his teammate C.Winkler took the remaining step on podium in his first AWS race after laps long battles with Excellent.

After M.Linde's unlucky race,A.Laipnieks now has a good advantage over closest rival in Drivers Championship standings - 10 points difference means that A.Laipnieks needs to finish 7th or better in final round to secure title in any scenario. M.Linde needs to win, take both bonus points and hope that A.Laipnieks finishes not higher than 8th or even in lower position if M.Linde does not score one or both bonus points. No other driver has a theoretical chance for main title, but the fight for 3rd place could bring some sparks to final race as M.Velikov and Excellent have tied points, where the latter has slight advantage due better finishing positions,5th in standings is M.Zandmanis with 6 points advantage over best of the rest. This race was the last one for RB4 Master award and A.Laipnieks secured also 2nd and 3rd individual small award - he also secured the Rookie of the year title.

Seeing the team's points leader damaging his title hopes pretty bad,Race Green Autosports still practically secured Teams Championship - Core Racing now trails by 27 points, while 26 points are normally theoretically maximum amount of points, but in high theory more points are possible when teammates tie the best laps either in qualifying or race, which has already happened twice this season and oval is the track where laptime tying is quite realistically possible, however it could be described as a total catastrophy when team with 8 eligible drivers fails to defend points gap that big. STO is 3rd in standings with -11 points to 2nd place - no other team has a chance to finish in top3 in Teams Championship. While Latvia has increased the distance to 75 points over the rest in Nations Cup standings, there is still some fight left lower in standings - Bulgaria has passed single driver nation Lithuania for 2nd place and now has 5 points advantage, while nation that has been between best in all 3 previous years - Finland - has very low chances to repeat success.

42 drivers have signed up for AWS 2015,31 of the actually took part in at least one round,30 have scored at least one point towards drivers championship, thus qualifying for the final round of this year's series - Winter 200 in 8th march! The race will decide 2 remaining titles - Drivers Championship, where A.Laipnieks has 10 points advantage and FXR Master award, where A.Laipnieks has 5 points advantage. The qualifying will feature single driver hotlap runs and the race will be decided by "friendship" - the one who has the most "friends" on track, has the best chances for victory,as beeing alone you might have a tough job to stay with rest.

Round 6

Sunday,8th March
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

This is it - finally the season finale is here,we're ready to decide who will be on top of everyone this year! Still 2 individual awards will be at stake at the final round of the season, including main title - Drivers Champion. Even though leader has quite solid advantage, the race where speeds can reach over 290 kilometers per hour nothing can be taken for granted as every lapse of concentration can lead to disaster. As always here comes questions about bumpdrafting - is legal? Our attitude stays the same as in previous years - it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!

In difference from all other rounds, this round will feature single driver hotlap qualifying, where everyone will be driving alone without any chance of outside assistance. The running order will be championship points table, where lowest driver will start first and highest last.

Round info:
Track: Kyoto Ring Oval (KY1)
Laps: 67 (201km)
Car: FXR
Previous winners: 22 S.Jurvansuu (2014), S M.Kapal (2013), spdoReno (2012)

Server info and password will be PM'ed friday evening (european time) to all entrants, until then server remains publically accessible:
AWS 2015
Single driver hotlap qualifying: so how it is, 1 or 2 time laps in quali per driver? I want only to be sure about that. Smile
Oh,right, forgot to remind - every driver will have 1 outlap and 2 timed hotlaps!
(actually it is already written in main post, but reminder is always good)
Server password for final round has been sent to all eligible entries, please notify if someone hasn't received it!

Round 6 official results + final standings

Leading 64 of 67 laps in an oval race deffinitely isn't an easy achievement, impossible without serious help - and M.Velikov had it through the most of the race in person of the next AWS champion on his way to 2nd successive race win here in Winter 200. Despite spin after laggy contact,A.Laipnieks still was able to save championship securing 2nd place in race,M.Linde finished 3rd as the final rush for 2nd place was also interrupted laggy contact.

All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2015 final standings:

Championship spreadsheets

A total of 42 entries were made for the 4th running of series,31 of them actually took part in at least one race, making AWS more attended then in previous year - with 14 drivers the final round was the least attended while 1st round gathered up the AWS record of 20 drivers, meaning the league deffinitely isn't dying out with 16 drivers per round average. Also fights on track and in points standings were hot,but everything stayed clean enough to finish the season without a single protest and any penalties.

AWS 2015 Drivers Champion: CoRe A.Laipnieks
Contrary to previous season, the fight for championship was quite close to be decided before final round - 10 points advantage gave much more breathing room for series leader going into final round then last year's tied points situation. A.Laipnieks never gave a chance to his rival and took the championship by winning half of 6 series rounds, finishing 2nd in another 2,also taking 2 pole positions and few other extra points. M.Linde finished 2nd in standings for 2nd year in row, taking one of the lower podium steps in 5 rounds and taking pole position in one round. 3rd in series is another RGA driver M.Velikov, who won final 2 rounds and finished on podium in another round. 4th place goes to 3rd round winner of the season - Excellent, who has also 2 pole positions under his belt,5th place is taken by STO's best entry M.Zandmanis.

AWS 2015 Rookie of the Year: CoRe A.Laipnieks
For the 2nd season in row the champion has never started an AWS race before his title winning season,so the award is presented together with the big title.

AWS 2015 FXR Master: CoRe A.Laipnieks
Being the best in different disciplines is the key on way to the main title - 2 of his 3 victories were taken in FXR rounds.

AWS 2015 RB4 Master: CoRe A.Laipnieks
"Only" 4 points difference decided the RB4 Master award for the champion,A.Laipnieks won one of the 3 RB4 rounds, the defending champion M.Linde had to settle for 3rd place this year.

AWS 2015 Cross Challenge winner: CoRe A.Laipnieks
Even if this 2 round small award had the closest decision - 3 points,A.Laipnieks proved his dominance in series by taking all 5 individual awards. He won both Cross Challenge rounds.

AWS 2015 Teams Champions: Race Green Autosports
The hosting team was able to defend the Teams champions title for another year, making now 3 years in row on top of Teams Championship standings. 2 wins,2 pole positions,5 fastest laps of the race and a total of 9 podium finishes made the 33 points advantage over the opposition.

AWS 2015 Nations Cup winners: Latvia
The league home land is still unbeaten in Nations Cup - Latvia has won this award in every single of 4 runnings of AWS,this year securing the award even with 2 rounds to go. All but one nation's points were scored by 2 series' leading drivers - A.Laipnieks and M.Linde, while Litro scored a single point for fastest lap of round 2. 3 wins,3 pole positions,5 fastest laps and 12 podium finishes (all 3 of them in 2 rounds) is the list of Latvia's achievements this year, finishing the season with massive 84 points lead.

Race Green Events thanks all participants and wishes much success in all other leagues and events they are taking part. We hope you enjoyed racing in AWS and you all get much fun and valuable experience from the races.
