Successor to Raceabout - E-RA Electric Raceabout
I've always wondered why there has never been a follow up to the Raceabout? Given the cooperation between ifs and Helsinki Polytechnic to get it into LFS.

Last I looked they had progressed to a total different shape and an electric propulsion system capable of around 270 + kph.

from the electric Era Blog

"E-RA achieved 277,40 km/h when racing down the 2500m long runway with moderate headwind. After just turning the four motor equipped E-RA around at the end of the runway Janne rushed back setting even more impressive top speed of 285,31 km/h! This results an average top speed of 281,36 km/h (174,86 mph) for two directions."

Let's ask Scawen if they could renew the contact with the developers of this car and get it into LFS?
..
Quote from cargame.nl :Would be a car totally on it's own not fitting in any class..

The current RAC already is the least driven car @LFS .. At this point it's the best to focus on cars which can gain high popularity.

(Better to have that LFSW table in distance, not laps because cruise is not included now.. But hhmm well.. )

Not interested in what is the most or least driven car. Maybe that's cause its so old a model?

We need and must have different cars and engine types esp. real life cars for variety and real world associations. The raceabout was/is a real life production car.

The devs have already had some working relationship with the polytechnic, so it should be easier to get a real life new engine type into the game rather than be offered an out of production shitbox v dub, after the much vaunted and acclaimed tyre physics are perfected in whatever knows century.
..
I'd welcome some Formula-E-ish car, could provide intersting racing.

I agree that I'd like to see Diesel and Electric engines, that would create a real variety and new driving experiences in LFS. But after new tyres physics and graphics overhaul Smile

It's not like the RB4 was newer and had higher polygons count... (but still manage to be driven 5 times more).
What's the point of an electric car in LFS (sounds like "full-auto" on 4 wheels anyway)?

Hi Vortech, pleased to meet you Smile in answer to your comment;

I don't know what the point of an electric car that if included in LFS may go faster than the 4 banger turbo cars in LFS?

I don't know the point of the latest raceabout in LFS that represents a clean' almost jaguar look and out accelerates many of the fictional cars in LFS whilst being an electric propulsion system, adding huge strategic moves to any long race, perhaps having to have a slide in battery carriage that takes ten mins to fit at a pit stop?

I don't know the point of a "auto", direct drive gearbox or a a variable speed gearbox, but they exist in real life.

My only point was this car screams in RL, looks great and the manufacturers had a previous working relationship with LFS developers. So it would seem it may be easier to get a working LFS version of this car in LFS sooner than a major manufacturer like Bentley, Audi, Mercedes etc. After all, whats the point of sitting around for the lowly bog standard out of date VW when there could be an exciting real car like the E-RA?

Also has Scawen, et al given any consideration to updated MRT, BMW Sauber etc?

Anytime, you'd like to drop by and share the devs thoughts on this idea Scawen, it would make for a good discussion on car types if not anything.
..
Quote from cargame.nl :Well... There is a 178 paged topic about this; https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/1917-Cars-we-wanna-see-in-S3

Good luck being at the end of the line Wink

You're a sorry sarcastic shit hey? I know the thread that's why I started the different one not about cars we'd like to see, but "why don't the devs renew acquaintances with previous manufacturers" you just love stirring shit, bringing ppl down and trying to get the last word don't you?
..
Actually he has a point...

Why should Scawen work on any cars the players WANT to see in S3, when he can do a car which has already half of comments negative, would require new propulsion system type developed (pretty much all of it, including braking by recuperation, different gearbox, battery usage and depletion, and finally the engine dynamics) and will be for sure driven by somebody who owns the real thing, so he can b*tch about how inaccurate it is.

Sorry, I can't stay amiss, when there's sarcasm flying, I'm sort of fluent in it. Smile

Actually I think LFS should add electric car in some not-so-distant iteration - just because it's slowly becoming part of car racing, with the Formula-E having some momentum. And both F1 and LMP1 (so 100% of serious racing cars) are now in hybrid, only entertainment series remain petrol/methyl only. So it's logical addition, if LFS wants to simulate real life car racing.

But I personally still don't like them too much, been driving electric go-karts during weekend, it has nice acceleration, but that weight is insane. Plus the whole site can be sent down on it's knees by an amateur league like we have, when we need 4-5h of top performance ride with 10 karts (so we depleted ~25 karts in about 3.5h and had to wait additional 10-15min before each of last heats to have enough karts recharged).

Quote from Wenom :Even to this day I still do not understand why they don't add new content to this game.(I do appreciate Rockingham) At this point every single car/track they add would be a big plus! I think the developers stress too much about everything else.. If there is nothing else to do (or to have energy) with LFS then maybe make tracks and cars? *hint hint*

Eric is currently working on another S3 track.
