How do you enable damage?
Greetings,

I just downloaded LFS to check it out with the Vive. Turns out it runs great on my laptop 780M! Everything turned on 10+ AI in a race I get over 90fps Smile

My question however is regarding the damage model. I messed up more then a few times but the cars don't appear to take any damage.

How do you enable it?
It's always on and is not possible to switch off. Well, the damage model is far from perfect, especially the visual one - hits, where real life formula car would come to stop because of broken off wheel[s],LFS formula car will survive with bent suspension (check F10 display when driving a car). Damage is there,it does penalize drivers for making mistakes, but cars in LFS are much more durable then the real ones. And pit crew is amazing - will fix by LFS standarts completely wrecked car in less then a minute! Big grin
Press F10 to show the suspension damage display.

Engine damage is caused by overrevving past the rev limiter (almost always from downshifting too early) and cannot be fixed in the pits.

Body damage can cause a reduction in ground clearance in rare cases, but otherwise body damage is purely cosmetic.
The kind of damage there is mostly "light damage" as typically happens during racing incidents:
If you hit guardrails the suspension/body bends and then the car will pull to sideways or get unstable to drive.
It is mostly noticeably in the forcefeedback, when steering wheel is shaking/pulling to sides. Or dampers break when going too hard over curbs.

But no matter what, the car will always be able to move because really heavy damage, as would happen during race-ending crashes (head-on into wall with 5 flips) does not exist. Note the choosen word: "move."
If car is so bent up that wheels are not in contact with ground anymore or pointed sideways etc then the car might still "move" somehow but basically is out of race, even if magically the engine can still drive the wheels.
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I was expecting a more realistic damage simulation. Any plans to enhance it?
Probably. We do not really know much is and in what order is in Scawen's (main programmer) to-do list, all we know that new tyre physics and VR support is on the top of that list, probably adding content to S3 licence too,but that's rather Eric's (LFS artist) job. But he obviously intends to make this sim as good as he can,he seems to be sort of a perfectionist - he tends to iron out all possible glitches before calling a release official, not like his italian colleagues, who tend to throw all they got to public and then deal with whatever is wrong there. Big grin
What we got here is how far he is now with it.

And its seems like their italian colleagues have a far better popular sim than us who are actually "facepalming" in front of our empty server list... maybe perfectionism are not a good way to do things after all.

It's true that RB4 interior are the pinnacle of perfection... just sayin...because being blind in front of LFS situation will not improve mp popularity.
Just wait... wait for it...
