Hi DEVs!

There is a clutch-bug shown in this replay! Watch "SPDO-Neotry" - he uses clutch in the 6th gear to get more highspeed!
Maybe u have fixed it, but maybe not and then i think you should know it!

Are you sure he gets more highspeed ? I doubt that! I think this is an useless action.

That's quite interesting! It definitely adds a few extra p/h at the limit, huh?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think this is a realistic thing. I've managed to do the same thing in my own real car, although I haven't managed to add a full 5mph. My car isn't so streamlined as a FOX tho, and depressing the clutch on my car has lost me almost as much speed through wind resistance as the jolt forward when I release it has added

If you watch closely, he's maxed out, and then nudges an extra 5 or so by clutch dipping. It's definitely bumping the max speed.
I can't watch the replay at the moment, but it sounds like the guy is just tapping the clutch to add more energy to the flywheel. It then becomes a race between the rate at which energy is added to the flywheel and the rate at which energy is lost due to drag and rolling resistance when the clutch is engaged. If you can add energy to the flywheel faster than the car loses energy, then you win overall. It's not something you'd want to do in real life, though, because it would wear out your clutch in no time.
What you do by dipping the clutch is to spin the flywheel up to a much higher RPM (so that it's 'charged' with energy). Then you suddenly dump the clutch and that energy has to go somewhere - and as it tries to accelerate the gearbox and slow down the engine it's obvious that the wheels will accelerate the car a bit. 5mph? That's quite a lot of energy and I'd have to do some sums later to work out if that's realistic.

But it shows a certain amount of cleverness in the clutch modelling in LFS already. Nice find

He does it two or three times a second over a few seconds.. the cumulative effect is roughly +5mph.
hm I rewatched the replay and i cant see the "5 mph". At any time he does the clutch thing his car was still accelerating. It would be interesting to compare normal acceleration with this clutch thing. But I guess he would reach the same speed with normal acceleration.
But when this is realy a bug, i think its more relatet to the flywheel modeling. You cant charge your flywheel with energy without losing the same amount through resistance forces, otherwise the car doesnt reached top speed at this point, because If you have a constant velocity the engine produces exact the power which is needed to compensate acting forces.
I watchted that replay several times, before posted it here. In my opinion he defenitly gets more highspeed by usin his clutch methode.
